Costco sells emergency food bucket with 25-year shelf life

IIf you want to be prepared for any situation, whether it’s an extreme weather event or a doomsday scenario, Costco has you covered — the retailer is selling an emergency bucket of food with a shelf life of up to 25 years.

O Emergency food bucket ready has a total of 150 servings of freeze-dried, dehydrated foods and drinks. Currently selling for $79.99 wholesale, the bucket includes meals like pasta Alfredo, macaroni and cheese, and chicken soup, among others. It also includes some gluten-free options, such as teriyaki rice and tomato and basil soup with noodles.

“This meticulously curated package is about more than food — it’s about readiness in the face of uncertainty,” according to the product description on Costco’s website.

“In a world where unpredictability has become a constant, our range plays a vital role in preparing for emergencies”, continues the product description. “Imagine the sudden onset of severe weather, the challenges of unexpected job transitions, or the unsettling idea of ​​food shortages. These are the times when having a reliable source of livelihood becomes a game changer.”

The bucket includes 80 servings of starters and sides, 30 servings of breakfast, and 40 servings of drinks. To prepare meals, simply add water. The bucket contains a total of 25,280 calories, according to the product description. Costco sells similar buckets in different sizes, including one Bucket for 110 servings with a shelf life of 15 years.

It’s unclear how long Costco has sold the buckets. But the buckets gained national attention after people started posting about them on social media, with some dubbing them “Costco Apocalypse Dinner Kits.” On June 30, cookbook author Jeffrey Eisner posted a video on Instagram from the Readywise Emergency Food Bucket — a 132-serving bucket he saw at a Costco selling for $62.99.

“I think this is for when the apocalypse comes, which could happen at any time, right? Who knows?” Eisner said in the video. “So you know, when the world collapses and falls apart, as long as you have your Readywise emergency food supply, all will be right with the world.”
