A FAMILY of five has purchased a unique small home that has a dual-purpose benefit.

Parents Joe and Sheri looked for a miniature space to downsize and save money after their children, all teenagers, left home for college.

They looked at three properties during a episode from A&E’s Home.Made.Nation to get an idea of the perfect space that could accommodate the whole family if necessary, but would still be suitable for mom and dad most of the time.

Preferring to stay in Temecula, California, about 60 miles north of San Diego, Joe and Sheri walked past small homes uniquely in the area.

While the second and third options the couple looked at were intriguing and almost made them pull the trigger, it was the first property that won them over.

Known as The Cottage Haven, the tiny home was 450 square feet and priced at $275,000.

Joe and Sheri set a budget of $250,000 and a minimum size requirement of 400 square feet, so the house missed the money mark but had the space they needed.

Entering the home, lime green wallpaper encapsulated the living room and featured a long white sofa, rug, dark wood dining table, and a kitchen complete with appliances.

There was also a sliding glass door that led out to a back deck and high ceilings to make the space feel larger.

The back deck was surrounded by a small fence and featured a table and chairs for more space and another place for Joe and Sheri’s family to spend time together and share an outdoor meal.

Heading into the kitchen, Sheri noticed there was “plenty of storage space” with a full-sized refrigerator, oven, sink and cabinets.

The couple said the only thing they would need to replace would be the countertops, but other than that, it was perfect as it came.

LOVE LOFT

They weren’t prepared for the most interesting feature – the staircase leading to an upstairs loft with double features.

“If the kids want to get away, they have that loft upstairs, which I never expected on a property this size,” exclaimed Sheri.

Not only could the kids have a place to sleep and relax in the loft, but there was also room for extra storage and a small dining table.

Extra space and storage are everything in a small house.

The master bedroom was also very large for Joe and Sherri, with a decent sized closet and bathroom.

BONUS TUB

The only problem was that the main bathroom was the only one in the house, which meant the kids would have to stop by whenever they needed to.

It ended up not being a deal breaker for Joe and Sherri after considering everything, and they decided to downsize to The Cottage Haven before their kids went to school.

The bonus hot tub in the backyard and great location may have also persuaded them enough to close the deal.
