The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center created these properties to help homeless veterans, according to the Fox affiliate WFXB.

It was hoped that these people could use the houses to help them get out on their own.

These tiny homes have been in the works for almost two years, but are scheduled to open in June.

The organization confirmed that the homes were equipped with essential items such as a bed and a small kitchen.

A current drawback is that the parking lot has not been completed.

The organization estimated that this will be completed within a few weeks.

A second important point to note is that these homes will be mostly free, but residents will be able to pay a small amount of rent when they are able to do so, according to the organization’s director of operations, Doug Allen.

“However, if and when the veteran can pay nominal rent, they will pay nominal rent and eventually we will get them back on their feet enough that they want to move out on their own,” Allen said. Fox affiliate WGHP.

He also shared the current stage of these homes and what additional features could be added.

“We have to include some accessories and, you know, the livable things now,” he said.

I turned an old school bus into a little house – it has everything I need and I don’t pay a penny in rent

“It’s just a bed and, you know, a refrigerator and a microwave that aren’t turned on.”

Allen also shared that a second phase of this project is planned.

This will include a resource center for the small home village.

The organization website shared the purpose and intended benefits of this site.

Small Home Village Eligibility Criteria

The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center has created a new tiny home village with 23 units.

This project is almost completed and will soon look to house people, but the target audience is very specific.

Eligibility requirements for potential inhabitants have been shared.

This small home village is only open to veterans struggling with homelessness.

“In this veteran community, we will be able to support our vets as they help each other in their everyday lives and activities,” the website stated.

“This village also allows our veterinarians to become more familiar with each other, making them feel more at home.”

Allen emphasized the importance of this project.

“That’s a hard thing to swallow,” Allen said.

“We shouldn’t have homeless veterans. However, we do and we are doing our best to get some of these ladies and gentlemen off the streets and get their lives back on track.”
