A LOWE’S shopper has criticized the chain and said she would no longer shop at the store due to a checkout measure.
This customer talked about his experience at a location in Arizona while explaining why he would take his money elsewhere.

Former Lowe’s buyer (@ocdavid) complained about a controversial change at checkout that more stores have adopted.
“@Lowes I visited your E. Gilbert location today,” he wrote in an X post.
“I grabbed a bunch of tools and went to check it out.
“There were only self-checkout machines open.”
More and more retailers have replaced their checkouts with self-service kiosks in recent years.
Customer complaints about the lack of in-person payment options have not been rare.
This buyer shared how an employee’s answer to his question made him take his business elsewhere.
“I asked an employee where I could pay without using the self checkout,” he added.
“They told me that’s not possible.
“You just lost my business.”
A NEW LOWE
Another Lowe’s shopper shared a similar sentiment with this angry former customer, The US Sun previously reported.
Janet Furgason of Georgia shared that she would stop visiting the home improvement store despite being a customer for years.
On a blunt Facebook publish she revealed her anger at self-service kiosks.
“I’m definitely anti-self checkout!!!” she wrote.
Latest self-checkout changes
Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.
Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.
Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and they were offered more cashiers.
While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.
One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.
However, this test has been discontinued.
At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.
Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.
In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.
Shoppers also identified their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.
“I was unhappy with the push for self-checkout here in the past, but now they have removed all the cash registers and you have no choice but to use self-checkout to pay for your purchases,” she added.
The buyer also said that she had already abandoned her cart full of merchandise in the store due to a lack of boxes.
CHECKING OUT
Walmart has had a mixed approach to the controversial checkout method.
Some shoppers shared similar anger with Lowe’s customers, the US Sun previously reported.
One person said they would not return to the store after removing $400 worth of merchandise from the machines.
Despite this, some Walmart locations had a completely different response and decided to abandon these avenues altogether.
