Elizabeth Walker Papke talked about Sam’s Club’s new AI-powered technology that could eliminate receipt checks.

These scanners would use cameras to capture images of a shopper’s cart as it leaves the store, according to the chain. website.

AI technology then detects which items have been purchased.

This information would then be compared to the customer’s receipt via the scanner and sent to an employee at the door.

Sam’s Club said it hopes these scanners will make shopping more convenient for its members.

“This new technology aims to reduce waiting times and congestion at exit,” the chain said.

Papke disagreed with this and criticized his experience with the new technology.

“I like to pack my stuff while I scan it – you can’t do that with this device, or at least that’s what an employee preemptively told me so our overhead scanner would “go live”,” she wrote in the comments of a Facebook post. publish.

“For me, it’s an inconvenience – it means handling items more often.”

Papke then explained that he found bagging his items while scanning was more beneficial than removing handwritten receipt checks.

‘Time to cancel!’ member cries after being charged $8 fee – and they ‘thought Sam’s Club was cheaper’

“My preference is to pack as I scan and then ask people to scan my receipt and three items,” she added.

“With the new system, I can’t bag as I go because the overhead scanner relies on all your stuff being left unbagged.

“Just a personal preference; for me it’s a minor inconvenience. That’s all.”

SAM IS CLUBED

Papke wasn’t the only member of the warehouse chain to criticize this move, US Sun previously reported.

How does the Sam’s Club AI cart scanner work?

Sam’s Club has decided to stop checking customers’ receipts and instead use AI machines to scan carts.

Shoppers can pay at a cash register or use Sam’s Club Scan & Go through its app.

Once customers pay, at the club’s exit area, computer vision and digital technology take photos of the carts and verify payment for all items.

The company hopes this new method will reduce long wait times at receipt checks.

“At Sam’s Club, we care about every second a member spends with us, so eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the checkout door is worth it,” said Sam’s Club Chief Marketer Megan Crozier , during the Walmart Lecture.

“We want to be the most convenient place to shop.”

One customer shared that they were skeptical about how absurd this would be.

“If you ‘check’, what could go wrong if you wrongly accuse someone of a crime, not to mention more unemployment, as sadly the future of humanity gets bleaker every day,” they wrote in an X publish.

Despite this, other buyers shared their enthusiasm for the change.

“As a customer, I would love this,” said one customer.

“Scan & Go is already very smooth, this will elevate the customer experience,” wrote another person.
