The Walmart buyer (@imagnationattic) criticized the chain for two problems he faced at checkout, in an X publish.

First, the customer shared an image of a sign that said “CARD ONLY and Walmart Pay!!”

“Sorry for the inconvenience, but we are not accepting cash at this time,” the notice added.

The buyer questioned why people were supposedly not notified sooner.

“Hey @Walmart you should tell people this BEFORE they spend an hour loading their shopping cart with necessities,” they wrote in the post.

“There are no real boxes? It’s okay, I’ll call them myself.”

“Don’t take cash? Last time I shopped here.”

The buyer claimed that these signs were only above the cash registers and added that there were no cash registers available.

They also emphasized why they thought it was important for retailers to accept cash.

“Some people, even today, use cash. This is why physical money still exists,” they added.

“There is no signage anywhere else.”

LOOTED

That person wasn’t the only Walmart shopper to complain about a problem with payment methods, the US Sun previously reported.

A customer took a stand after his cash payment method was rejected.

“Tonight I went to get supplies for my trip this weekend,” he wrote in an X publish.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and they were offered more cashiers.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers also identified their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

“I go to pay and they tell me they are refusing to accept money!

“Customer service said if I paid cash they wouldn’t give me CHANGE.”

CHECK CHANGES

Stores across the country have made adjustments to their checkout areas.

Many Walmart customers took to social media to complain about the lack of cashiers at some of its stores, The US Sun previously reported.

One person explained how this became a problem when they tried to buy a vacuum cleaner.

“So my local Walmart tonight was self-checkout only, which was really inconvenient because I bought a store vacuum,” he said. he wrote in X.

“I couldn’t find anyone to take the security tag off, so I just honked my horn as I left holding my receipt,” he added.

The US Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.
