A FURIOUS shopper has blasted Target over a checkout error that saw them charge extra for a summer essential.
They alleged that the retail giant incorrectly marked certain sections of its local store for swimsuit promotions and sales in August.

Signs would have been posted around the section with discounts of 30% to 70%.
After picking up a swimwear item from the clearance section, the customer arrived at the register assuming they would save money on the purchase.
They examined the product to find it was still listed at full price and called Target for the discrepancy.
“#RockHillSC @Target needs to get its act together…” the buyer wrote in a publish for X, formerly Twitter.
“‘Sale 30-70%’ signs in various places around the swimwear, but somehow the piece I’m buying isn’t for sale…of course, Jan.”
Target quickly responded to the complaint, emphasizing that a team member would make “every attempt to resolve the issue.”
“We know how frustrating it can be when you find an error on your receipt,” the retailer responded.
“Please check with the in-store customer service team leader [on] your next visit.”
STRICT COUNTING
Complaints about errors and checkout policies have been happening at Target for months.
What’s particularly frustrating for some shoppers is Target’s 10-item limit on what is now Express Self-Checkout.
After testing the item limit at kiosks last fall, the retailer permanently implemented the rule at its 1,963 stores nationwide this spring.
Many have claimed that their local stores do not have enough checkout counters to accommodate shoppers with more than 10 items who are now unable to use self-checkout as before.
Some accuse Target of “understaffing checkout counters” and leaving carts full of groceries behind, angry about long lines and wait times.
One customer claimed their store only had one checkout lane open during a pickup trip in a cashier error that made them vow to boycott Target indefinitely.
What is Target Circle 360?
In April, Target launched its first paid membership program, Target Circle 360.
For $99 per year, members have access to the following benefits:
- Unlimited, free same-day delivery on orders over $35
- Another 30 days to return your items
- Free two-day shipping on 100,000 items
- 5% discount in store and online
- Automatic offers and exclusive benefits for partners
Someone cheated the system and found ways to pay for $150 worth of groceries without having to wait.
Still, several cited that they were left in a bind about what to do during longer trips to the grocery store with the policy change.
CARRYING CHAOS
Others encountered checkout errors on purchases, including a supposed hidden surcharge that made them pay extra.
Target also promised to launch an investigation after a checkout error caused a customer to be “100% overcharged” for a children’s toy.
Another warned other shoppers to “check their receipts” after what was reportedly the fourth overcharge in recent months.
In January, Target was one of several retailers, including Family Dollar, that were penalized for overcharging customers at multiple locations.
