A WALMART shopper was furious over a checkout feature he failed to use effectively.

They called the retail giant after a recent trip to the supermarket where they encountered long lines and wait times to pay.

The customer, Michael, noted that he was a Walmart+ subscriber, meaning he paid a $98 annual fee for various perks and benefits.

One such benefit is the Scan & Go feature in the Walmart mobile app.

Scan & Go allows Walmart+ members to scan items in the store as they pick them up and place them in their cart, generating a single barcode for everything that they can quickly show the cashier or scan at self-checkout to leave the store quickly.

Walmart recently implemented a controversial policy in select stores to reserve self-checkout kiosks specifically for Walmart+ subscribers to make the process more efficient.

Michael’s store apparently didn’t make the change, causing him to pay $98 and lose the promised benefit.

“@Walmart why is there no Walmart + scan and just checkout?” he asked in a publish to X on Sunday.

“Self-checkout lines are over 30 meters long and can take over 30 minutes to cross.”

Michael got angry saying that it often “takes longer to checkout than to shop.”

“I thought scan & go was supposed to save time,” he added.

Walmart responded quickly, asking Michael to send a direct message with more information to resolve the issue.

‘What sense does that make,’ ask Walmart shoppers as store rolls out self-checkout limit – but only has two open tills

NEED FOR ASSISTANCE

It’s unclear if the customer reached out, but he wouldn’t be the only one having problems with Walmart+.

Typically, it’s non-subscribing customers who are furious about some self-checkout kiosks being blocked for Walmart+ and Spark Drivers members.

Some have claimed that at least 60% of their stores’ kiosks are now reserved, leaving little for regular shoppers.

Walmart also caused uproar during testing of another policy similar to the one Target permanently implemented this spring.

RESTRICTED ACCESS

Some locations have been identified with a limit of 15 items at self-checkout, further restricting who has access to the kiosks.

Customers with more than 15 items and no membership detailed confusion over where they should go to pay for their purchases with the changes.

Many say there aren’t enough cashiers to handle the influx of customers who would have used self-checkout before the policies.

Others cited their stores as having only self-service kiosks and no open checkouts, in addition to the 15-item limit.

Walmart also came under customer scrutiny this summer over an alleged overcharge of $121 on an item.

Another was forced to scan $400 worth of groceries due to the retailer’s recent political decisions.
