Costco fans ‘stopped dead in their tracks’ when shopper returned entire turkey meal for 30 people and received full refund

COSTCO members shared the most horrific returns they’ve seen at the store, including everything needed for a dinner for 30 people.

A Reddit user asked other shoppers in the r/Costco community about the most shocking returns they’ve witnessed.

The store has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, which means customers can return just about anything if they say it doesn’t meet their standards.

The soft policy has resulted in some “absolutely crazy” returns, including half-eaten food and items that are decades old.

“I was going through subscriptions/returns on my way to the food court and noticed not one, but two whole turkey carcasses,” the shopper said. he wrote.

“Along with obviously opened boxes of stuffing, two six-pack cans (or whatever quantity they were in) of cranberry sauce, cutlery, plates, etc.

“Basically leftovers from a full meal and all the fixings for 20-30 people, obviously eaten and returned.

“I had to stop suddenly… it turned out the customer said he was ‘not satisfied with the purchase’ and as per the policy, he was refunded.”

Other Reddit users mentioned a common return that happens after the holidays.

“Our Costco started putting up signs every Christmas stating that all live Christmas tree sales were final,” another shopper wrote.

“Previously, so many idiots returned dead Christmas trees that it forced Costco, insanely accommodating Costco’s return policy, to make an exception and refuse returns.

‘I was surprised when I saw several people returning dead trees and surprised when it got to the point where Costco actually changed their policy. Never underestimate the power of selfish, stupid idiots en masse, I guess.

BUYER BEWARE

Costco closely tracks which members are returning and how often they do so.

Buyers who abuse the policy may be expelled from the wholesale club.

A Reddit user claiming to be an employee explained what happened when a woman was reported for making too many returns.

“When I worked there, a woman brought a bag of oranges where two or three were spoiled and the rest disappeared”, they recall.

“This happened every month or so.”

“After about six months, her account was flagged and she was given the option to return to the subscription or accept the fact that oranges go bad if you don’t eat them fast enough,” the post concluded.

Membership and store cards offered by major retailers

Here’s a breakdown of the store cards offered to customers from various retailers and their benefits:

Costco:

• Gold Star Membership: $60 per year, shop at all Costco stores and online with two additional cards for your family.
• Executive Member: $120 per year, 2% annual rewards, discounts and additional benefits on Costco services, shop online and in-store and get two additional cards for home use.

Sam’s Club:

• Club membership: $50 Per Year, Bonus Offers, Same Day Delivery, Instant Savings, Sam’s Club Mastercard, Members Only Fuel Savings, Tire & Battery Center, Free Membership and Complimentary Memberships.
• More membership: $110 per year, all the benefits of Club membership plus Sam’s Cash, free shipping, free curbside pickup, advance purchases, and pharmacy and optical discounts.

Target:

• Target Circle: A free rewards program that allows users to earn 1% in Target Circle earnings rewards when a qualifying purchase is made, access personalized deals and offers, earn a birthday gift, and earn a vote to help direct how Target helps your community .
• Target Circle Card: A credit, debit or reloadable card that offers users 5% off in-store and online, as well as exclusive offers, free two-day shipping and an additional 30-day return window. Formerly Target RedCard.

Walmart:

• Walmart+: $12.95 per month or $98 per year with 30-day free trial. It offers members free delivery, free shipping with no minimum spend, fuel savings, Paramount+ subscription, car, Walmart+ travel, home drop-off, mobile scan and store entry, and early access to offers and product launches.

Caroline TikToker (@trubirdsisters) worked at Costco for seven years, six of which were in the returns department.

She explained that employees are trained to ensure members don’t “buy as much as they give back.”

“Their politics exist for a reason and the reason is: they are smart.

“They know that you are spending much more than you are returning, on average.

“Costco knows it’s advantageous to have this kind of great return policy because it brings you back to the store, we take good care of you, you return your item, so you’ll probably be there and you’ll buy more stuff.”

Despite the lenient policy, shoppers were left baffled when they saw a man try to return two obviously stained mattresses.

And one customer explained what happened when a customer in line tried to return a bizarre 2017 item.
