A FORMER McDonald’s corporate chef has explained why customers can’t personalize their breakfast burrito.
Unlike many of the chain’s menu items, guests can’t customize their orders for their favorite early morning dish.
Most sandwiches and entrees on the McDonald’s menu can be customized.
Guests can choose to remove items like pickles or sauces and add extras like an additional slice of cheese.
But many customers have noticed that’s not the case with the breakfast burrito line.
Turns out there’s a very specific reason for this, as former McDonald’s corporate chef Mike Haracz said (@chefmikeharacz) explained in a recent TikTok video.
According to Haracz, this is why adding extras to the breakfast burrito, like a hashbrown inside, “isn’t going to happen because they’re already wrapped and mixed.”
“At the restaurant they receive frozen tortillas and a frozen mixture of eggs, sausage, peppers and all of that, already mixed,” he said.
“The team then prepares in advance as a prep step before breakfast service.
Haracz explained the process this way: “The tortillas, the egg, the sausage mixture, a piece of cheese. Wrap it up, put it in the paper, put a sticker on it.
“In some cases, they microwave a bunch of them and put them in the universal cupboard.”
The universal cabinet is a piece of kitchen equipment made specifically for McDonald’s that keeps food hot and fresh.
“If not, they are microwaving them to order,” Haracz said.
The US Sun reached out to McDonald’s to verify what Haracz said.

In other McDonald’s news, the chain has quietly reintroduced a popular drink to its menu.
The Oreo frappe returned for the first time since 2023.
It’s the drink’s second comeback since it was originally discontinued in 2015.
The sweet, cold drink features a chocolate flavor, hints of coffee and pieces of Oreo cookies.
It’s topped with crumbled cookies and whipped cream.
PRICE INCREASES
However, some restaurants in California are facing menu price increases in response to a new law.
The state’s $20 minimum wage for fast food workers took effect April 1, and many fast food franchises have raised prices to compensate.
However, one franchise owner has vowed to fight the law.
See what time McDonald’s stops serving breakfast and what’s on the menu.
