BEAUTY retailer Ulta is set to pull out of a shopping mall in a few days as it launches a huge sale to clear stock.
The makeup store at San Francisco’s East Bay Bridge Center will close permanently on Saturday.
Customers were alerted to the sudden closure when signs were posted on the doors simply saying “We will be closing this location on Saturday, May 4th.”
Images of the signs were first shared by @evilleeye on Instagram while signs directed loyal customers to its other two nearby locations.
Although the store openly announced the closing date, an employee who spoke anonymously with SF Gate revealed that the store will be holding a sale of its stock.
“We are running a big promotion,” she told the outlet, claiming that in the coming days there will be products available with a 90% discount on the price.
The employee also recalled that the store workers “were well looked after”.
They would have been allowed to transfer to other nearby Ulta stores.
Customers of the closing store lamented the sudden closure, with some suggesting more Ulta locations will follow suit.
“Nooooo I love having an ulta so close,” said one customer under @evilleeye’s Instagram post.
“We were there on Saturday and had no idea. This is shit,” said another.
“I heard other stores are closing across the state,” a third warned Ulta fans.
The Illinois-based company is the nation’s largest beauty retailer with more than 1,300 locations.
Despite fears of more Ulta closures, the latest report of the company in relation to its financial results is reassuring.
Under its plans for fiscal 2024, Ulta expects to open between 60 and 65 new locations.
Additionally, the company plans to renovate and relocate 40 to 45 existing stores.
The beauty retailer is also looking to expand its operational presence outside the United States.
“International expansion represents an incremental, long-term opportunity for Ulta Beauty to broaden our reach and leverage our differentiated value proposition,” said Dave Kimbell, CEO.
