THRIFTERS were super jealous of a shopper who found an authentic mid-century coffee table at Goodwill for just $60, despite its $1,350 value.

When the buyer shared his savings discovery on Reddit, he was met with several skeptics.

They posted a photo of the table on the Mid-Century style subreddit. It was designed by architect and interior designer Adrian Pearsall.

The style is called Mesa Jacks because the base looks like old steel jacks that children would play with.

“I found this table at Goodwill for $60, still in great condition!” they captioned it Photograph.

Almost every other response to the photo was someone expressing jealousy.

“I’m so jealous. I’ve been looking for one like this for a long time. Amazing condition too,” he wrote personally.

Another said: “Practically crying with jealousy!”

But other Reddit users weren’t convinced the table was authentic.

“I think it’s a replica… The only ones I’ve seen are made of walnut. Still, a great attraction for the qualities of MCM”, wrote one person.

A few others agreed and said it was a “well done replica,” but the original poster knew that.

“It’s walnut and 100% not a replica. I promise,” they wrote.

I suspected my cheap $5 jewelry was worth more – a jeweler made me an offer, but people say he was scamming me

“I agree. It’s faded and needs a polish,” added another.

Another Jacks table recently sold for $1,350 in eBaywhile a pair of matching final tables are in contention for a eye-watering $3,200.

TREASURE

High-quality, valuable items like the Jacks table are donated to Goodwill stores more often than most people think.

Another buyer found an antique table from the 1930s that sells for more than $1,600.

They posted a photo of their find on the r/antiques subreddit and said it was the most valuable thing they had ever found at Goodwill.

“Cushman Colonial Creation maple side table with built-in lamp 1934,” they wrote.

The Redditor said he bought it for just $9.99 and that it was in good condition, with “a few water rings but no damage to the wood.”

How to identify valuable items at the thrift store

Everyone reads these stories of savers making big savings and even profits from their rare finds, but how do they know what to look for?

A shopping expert has revealed what you should look for when you’re at thrift stores to save money.

Jeanel Alvarado Head of Retail says kitchenware is an important thing to look out for, as retailers will use similar materials, colors and patterns, but thrift stores will have unique objects that can add personality to your kitchen.

Thrift stores are a gold mine for purchasing pieces for your home and you can even find new items with a generous discount applied.

“I would rather thrift kitchen and tableware items from a thrift store than a dollar store for value and function,” Alvarado explained to Yahoo.

“However, thrift stores often receive donated items from other businesses, so you may be able to find a better quality item that is still in its original packaging.”

Despite the value, they don’t plan on selling it anytime soon.

“It’s worth more to me”, they posted.

“I love the quality of the wood and have no interest in abandoning it.”

Another investor found a pair of earrings for $7, but a stamp on the back proved they were worth more than $4,600.

And a Goodwill employee revealed how to find brand-name items in the store.
