COSTCO members lashed out at customers who took advantage of the lenient return policy after a customer attempted to reclaim a 15-year-old sofa.

Costco has a famously generous 100% return satisfaction guarantee that offers customers a full refund.

On the r/Costco subreddit, a customer shared a photo of the couch abandoned on a flat cart in front of the store.

“Local Costco – someone tried to return their 15 year old couch but was told no,” they wrote.

“So they just left/discarded it! Rude!”

They didn’t reveal the reason for the return, but Redditors were quick to judge the buyer.

“I hope Costco cancels your membership for abandoning your c**p in the store,” one person wrote.

“Who in their right mind thinks returning 15-year-old furniture is acceptable? Nobody. That person was crazy.”

A second customer wrote: “I agree. This is despicable.”

“I know Costco’s return policy is basically ‘We’ll take whatever,’ but this is a glaring plus. Used mattresses with stains? A 90s TV? Dead Christmas trees/plants?

“Come on, that’s enough.”

However, some people defended the measure.

Costco Insider Says Shopper Should Go ‘Straight to Jail’ After Gruesome Aisle Discovery Showing ‘Complete Disrespect’

“If Costco allows people to abuse the system, people will do it,” wrote one shopper.

“It’s no different than the LL bean return policy. They allowed people to return random junk that was over 20 years old and get a new item. They allowed this for years and eventually changed their return policy.”

Another added: “When experiencing these things, management often looks at how much you spend annually. If you spend $5 to 10 thousand a year, they will accept your return.”

“Losing a few hundred dollars in the grand scheme of things is nothing if it causes you to go back and lose thousands a year.

“If you don’t spend much, you can expect to be turned down if you try to do something like this.”

THE FINE PRINT

Surprisingly, there are certain items that Costco does not allow returns or refunds on certain items.

Electronics have a 90-day return period, and diamonds 1 carat or larger must be returned within 48 hours with all original documentation.

Diamonds will also be inspected for authenticity upon return.
