A TARGET customer shared their outrage after being told they could no longer use self-checkout due to the store’s new policy.

Customers now face a limit on the number of items they can scan, but many also believe that traditional registries are understaffed.

Target has begun implementing a new 10-item limit on self-checkout registers all over the country in March.

To say the policy has been unpopular with some shoppers would be an understatement, and many have taken to social media to share their grievances.

One recently posted on Facebook after a bad experience at your local Target.

“The target is ridiculous,” they wrote.

“Self checkout kicked me out because I had 12 items instead of 10 items.”

The buyer claimed that his store had not been strict about the new policy before, but was now “suddenly” enforcing it.

When they went to a regular cashier to check out, they were disappointed with the long wait.

“Then I get in line, wait a few minutes because there is someone working.”

The customer didn’t understand why they couldn’t use self-checkout.

“No one was using the self-checkout. I understand if it’s busy, but come on.”

Others in the post’s comments shared their annoyance with Target’s new policy.

“They are getting worse and worse,” wrote one. “No one is ever at the registers!”

Another said: “I think self-checkouts need to be banned.”

MORE SELF-CHECKOUT COMPLAINTS

The 10-item limit isn’t the only new Target policy angering shoppers.

In February, Target confirmed that some stores would reduce the hours of their self-checkout registers.

“Target closing its self-checkout has made going to Target pretty unbearable,” said one on X.

What is Target Circle 360?

In April, Target launched its first paid membership program, Target Circle 360.

For $99 per year ($49 if you sign up before May 18), members have access to the following perks:

  • Unlimited, free same-day delivery on orders over $35
  • Another 30 days to return your items
  • Free two-day shipping on 100,000 items
  • 5% discount in store and online
  • Automatic offers and exclusive benefits for partners

Some claimed this also made the wait for regular registrations even longer.

“My local Target closed the self-checkout lines so it was back to waiting forever to be checked out,” another user X posted.
