Most items can be returned for a full refund, no matter how long it has been since purchase.

On the Costco subreddit, members discussed questionable returns they witnessed and felt took advantage of the policy.

“A family member purchased two electric bikes for the summer and returned them in the fall because he didn’t want to store them,” they wrote on Reddit wire.

“They told the story with joy, as if they were proud to have done it. After I explained that this was not what the returns were supposed to be used for, we got into it and I haven’t spoken to them since.

“It’s not about return, it’s about knowing right from wrong.”

At the same store, they saw another member return a lawn mower that was more than a year old.

“The worst abuse I witnessed was a guy returning a lawn mower over 10 years old that was dirty, rusty, covered in oil and grass. gave him his money back,” they added.

But some people defended the returns.

“It’s part of Costco’s business model. One of the biggest draws to shopping at Costco is their “100% Risk-Free Satisfaction Guarantee”,” responded one customer.

“Obviously, it’s a shame to see people “abuse” their generous return policy because eventually the cost will be passed on to the customer in the form of higher membership prices or a stricter return policy. For example, when Costco changed the return policy on some electronics to 90 days.

Costco fans ‘stopped dead in their tracks’ when shopper returned entire turkey meal for 30 people and received full refund

“People returning 7-year-old TVs for refunds eventually became enough of an impact on the bottom line that they did something about it.”

SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS

Whether an item is returned and a customer is refunded is ultimately up to the Costco team.

Despite the lenient policy, they can deny return for several reasons.

A former employee explained on Reddit that she only denied one return, and the reason was extremely obvious.

“This guy arrived wanting to return the rotten salmon he left in the trunk for months,” she said. he wrote.

“It was green and black and smelled like absolute death. I denied the return.”

“I was called every name in the book, but I was still denied return.”

Costco Return Policy

What are the details of the famous return policy?

“We guarantee your satisfaction with every product we sell and will refund the purchase price,” said the return policy States.

There are some exceptions to this 100% satisfaction guarantee, which are:

  • Electronics – Returns will be accepted within 90 days from the date the member received the product.
  • Diamonds – 1.00 ct or larger must be returned with all original documentation within 48 hours and will be inspected for authenticity.
  • Cigarettes and alcoholic beverages – These items cannot be returned by law.
  • Items with a limited shelf life, such as batteries and tires, cannot be returned.
  • Special order kiosk and custom installed programs may only be returned or refunded if under warranty repair/replacement.
  • Gold bars, silver bars and coins are non-refundable.
  • Store Cards are non-refundable.
  • Airline items and live performance events are non-refundable.

Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if the customer is dissatisfied.

The buyer was so upset that he canceled his subscription on the spot.

But other customers and employees who witnessed the transaction supported the teller’s choice.

“I was also eight months pregnant and extremely tired from the conversation, so my coworkers were obviously defensive of me, including the members who were in line.”

She added that customers can just bring the tags and a photo of the damaged item if they find themselves in the same situation.

“The store has a “no items present” button for a reason,” she wrote.

Employees attacked a customer who attempted to return a hot tub without fully emptying it.

Another Costco shopper was “warned” by an employee after returning more than half of the products he purchased.
