COSTCO members were shocked when a fellow buyer brought a destroyed, high-quality grill back to the warehouse for a refund.

The shameless shopper then took advantage of Costco’s return policy to purchase a new grill.

Costco’s lenient return policy has resulted in a number of questionable returns that some may consider an abuse of the retailer’s policy.

A Reddit user described one such return on the Costco returns subreddit.

The user explained that he did roadshows at Costco for a wood pellet grill company.

While on the job, he witnessed a Costco member bring back “an absolutely destroyed top-of-the-line model” and use the money to buy a new grill of the same model.

The store manager even asked the roadshow employee to set up the grill for the buyer.

After the customer left, the user went to the membership desk to obtain information to process the return.

He discovered that the destroyed grill was only a year old and the buyer had already damaged and returned two grills.

“They were assuming he had a restaurant or some kind of food business,” the user wrote.

A fellow Costco shopper was stunned by the ridiculous return.

“Shameless bastard!” they commented.

ANOTHER QUESTIONABLE RETURN

A distressed grill is just one of Costco’s many notable comebacks.

Other shoppers similarly took advantage of the retailer’s 100% satisfaction guarantee return policy, including one member who returned half-eaten food.

On the Costco subreddit, a shopper shared how she was making a typical return of ill-fitting clothes when she witnessed an absurd return.

The customer in front of him had returned several eaten foods, including a half-empty container of pickles, sealed with rubber bands.

She also returned half a bag of frozen peas, which she cut with scissors instead of using a ziplock.

The third item she brought was half a box of frozen egg rolls.

Costco Return Policy

What are the details of the famous return policy?

“We guarantee your satisfaction with every product we sell and will refund the purchase price,” said the return policy States.

There are some exceptions to this 100% satisfaction guarantee, which are:

  • Electronics – Returns will be accepted within 90 days from the date the member received the product.
  • Diamonds – 1.00 ct or larger must be returned with all original documentation within 48 hours and will be inspected for authenticity.
  • Cigarettes and alcoholic beverages – These items cannot be returned by law.
  • Items with a limited shelf life, such as batteries and tires, cannot be returned.
  • Special order kiosk and custom installed programs may only be returned or refunded if under warranty repair/replacement.
  • Gold bars, silver bars and coins are non-refundable.
  • Store Cards are non-refundable.
  • Airline and live performance event items are non-refundable.

Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if the customer is dissatisfied.

“I had NO idea you could come back all,” the Reddit user wrote.

“I hope she pays with karma, because I really came away thinking this was an abuse of the policy.”

The US Sun has already covered ridiculous returns accepted at Costco.

A buyer returned $44,000 worth of items from Costco.

Another member returned a 20-year-old cassette radio found in his garage.
