TikTok user @bigtacticals I found a huge trove of rare and potentially valuable coins completely by accident.

“I look for an old photo album, I look in boxes, I don’t stay here much,” he explained in a video filmed in his attic.

As he dropped a cardboard box onto a pile of insulation, he heard a loud noise coming from something beneath it.

“So I got this box and it was small but really heavy,” the TikToker explained.

Inside the box was a small metal can with quite unexpected contents.

Lifting the lid, @bigtacticals saw two old pennies in a plastic bag, two rolls of 25 John Adams dollars, an envelope with $2 bills and Marilyn Monroe stamps.

But the real treasures were at the bottom of the can.

Among the dozens of coins, he found a Morgan silver dollar and a British medal.

The Morgan silver dollar is known as the “King of America’s coins” and is highly sought after among collectors.

The most valuable of these pieces could be worth up to US$550,000, according to CoinTrackers. with.

I hid 11 rare coins throughout my town on a $10,000 ‘treasure hunt’ – but you should be able to decode the clues

“This is crazy. This must be worth something,” said the lucky discoverer.

The TikToker was unable to disclose the exact value of his coins, as everything will depend on their grade.

Coins are graded on a scale, and generally, the better condition the piece is in, the more money it is worth.

How coins are classified

Coins are graded on a scale of one to 70, with one being the lowest grade and 70 being the purest example.

Numbers 60 to 70 are generally the most sought after by collectors and are known as Mint State coins.

Pieces worth thousands of dollars at auction are commonly found in MS67, MS68, and MS69 condition.

An MS-70 is almost impossible to find among older coins.

However, this is not always the case.

A man who took his collection of Morgan silver dollars to the experts at Pawn Stars was delighted to discover that their terrible condition only made them more valuable.

Rick Harrison said many collectors look for pieces that have as much natural wear as possible on the coin but remain identifiable.

As a result, he was willing to pay $4,000 for approximately a dozen pieces.

Rick told the seller that the Morgan silver dollar is “the most collectible of all United States coins.”

See why a 50-cent coin could be worth $46,000 if there’s a specific detail in JFK’s hair.

And check out the first error coin of 2024.
