A SALVATION Army saver has found great success, purchasing a $6,000 painting for just $12.50.

As a fellow artist, the buyer realized there was something special about the painting – and his signature confirmed it.

In a Reddit post, the buyer shared the details of his Salvation Army find.

They explained how they were visiting the thrift store in 2007 when they saw the painting.

“As an artist, I know this wasn’t just a low-quality thrift store find. I felt like there was something special about it,” they wrote.

The painting cost $100, so the buyer decided not to buy it.

However, the saver couldn’t stop thinking about the painting and returned to the Salvation Army a few days later.

Luckily, the artwork was marked down to $25, so the buyer grabbed it and went to checkout.

The cashier informed the Redditor that everything in the store was half off, so the painting only cost $12.50.

ECONOMY FIND VALUE

After getting the piece for a bargain, the saver analyzed its value.

They noticed the signature was that of painter Pamela DuLong and researched her gallery in Maine.

“It turns out that her paintings were selling in the $5,000 to $6,000 range at the time,” the buyer wrote.

I asked the lady at the thrift store how much my two kitchen finds cost – I had to act calm when she said just $10

“Needless to say, I was very happy.”

They contacted DuLong about the piece and were told that the painting was the only self-portrait ever made by the artist.

It was previously sold to a collector in Maine in the 1980s.

“I don’t care if it’s worth anything or not, I love the painting and I’m not going to get rid of it”, concluded the saver.

ANOTHER BUSINESS FOUND

Another savvy shopper did well with Goodwill, finding a collection of old drawings in a Goodwill dumpster for just 37 cents.

They found a copy of Forty-Seven Facsimile Drawings by American Artists, a 1918 book of drawings.

The collection brings together 47 drawings by North American artists, according to Library of Congress.

The artists assembled the collection to benefit the American Artists War Emergency Fund.

It features drawings such as A Little Maid by Daniel Garbre and Sketch of a Young Girl by Irving R. Wiles.

According to the buyer, the book he bought for less than $1 is worth a lot of money.

“Some others online in worse condition are priced at $800 to $1,200,” they wrote.

The US Sun has previously reported on valuable thrift store finds.

One resident found a pair of earrings for just $7 – she noticed they were “stamped” and an expert said they were worth $4,682.

Another buyer bought a porcelain set locked in a display case for $200 – the “seagulls” are worth $1,000.
