COSTCO customers were horrified to learn that a woman purchased and returned the same item ten times and replaced the real product with water at least once.

Customers must purchase a membership to shop at Costco, but they can revoke it for a variety of reasons.

Some shoppers called for this to happen to a customer after she was caught returning a bottle of an expensive skincare item filled with water.

The story unfolded on Reddit at r/Costco community.

“Some people are not ashamed. I saw a lady return an SK-II Essence bottle ($200-300) that obviously looked like water because it was a very clear liquid which is not normal (I have this product),” wrote one customer.

SK-II sells its Pitera Facial Treatment Essence in four different sizes, with prices ranging from $99 to $325.

“I saw the employee open it and smell it, saying that it has no smell and that it has the consistency of water,” they continued.

“I didn’t hear what the lady replied, but I’m sure she made some kind of excuse.

“Then I heard the employee saying that she bought and returned the same item ten times in the last few years. I was shocked. How are people not ashamed to do this? I’m shocked.”

Other Costco shoppers were equally shocked by the responses.

“Yes… they should definitely mark her as a regular returner and ban her from joining. Force her to pay full price for her skin care,” one person wrote.

Another shopper said the woman was “actively committing fraud.”

Costco fans ‘stopped dead in their tracks’ when shopper returned entire turkey meal for 30 people and received full refund

“Yes, I was going to say, aren’t fraudulent returns considered theft?” added another customer.

“Keep letting her do this, build a case, when it goes over $3,000, charge it as a crime and throw her in jail, haha.”

Another person wrote: “If Costco knows they are doing this – that it is fraud/theft – then they should be banned for life.”

EXPULDED

Despite Costco’s lenient 100% satisfaction guarantee, customers considered freeloaders of the system can be kicked out of the club.

Maryam Nicksolat said Costco confiscated her membership card when she tried to return a printer she bought six years ago.

She said she had problems with the printer when she bought it but forgot to return it. Business Insider reported.

Nicksolat checked online and saw that the printers were not included on the store’s 90-day electronics returns list, so she decided to try to get a refund.

Unfortunately, a manager told her that the printer would not be returned because she had made too many returns.

He even had a list of all the items she had brought.

Nicksolat backed down, but the coach said it was his decision and he would not give in.

Store managers ultimately decide whether or not to process a return and revoke an association.

Costco Return Policy

What are the details of the famous return policy?

“We guarantee your satisfaction with every product we sell and will refund the purchase price,” said the return policy States.

There are some exceptions to this 100% satisfaction guarantee, which are:

  • Electronics – Returns will be accepted within 90 days from the date the member received the product.
  • Diamonds – 1.00 ct or larger must be returned with all original documentation within 48 hours and will be inspected for authenticity.
  • Cigarettes and alcoholic beverages – These items cannot be returned by law.
  • Items with a limited shelf life, such as batteries and tires, cannot be returned.
  • Special order kiosk and custom installed programs may only be returned or refunded if under warranty repair/replacement.
  • Gold bars, silver bars and coins are non-refundable.
  • Store Cards are non-refundable.
  • Airline and live performance event items are non-refundable.

Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if the customer is dissatisfied.

Costco’s senior vice president of Northeast operations, Jeff Long, said she would be reimbursed for the annual membership fee and the printer and ink she had requested returned.

In a letter, he wrote: “It is evident from review of your membership account that you are not satisfied with the products you purchased from Costco and we are unable to satisfy you as a member.”

Unfortunately for Nicksolat, she had more items she planned to return before her subscription was cancelled.

“We went with Costco because we buy a lot of household goods. We spend thousands of dollars at Costco. We’re not talking about bulk salad dressing or bulk tomato soup, we’re talking about thousands of dollars,” she said.

Costco shoppers were equally shocked by a customer who returned an “absolutely destroyed” grill for a brand new model.

Another “frequent returner” was warned by a Costco employee that he could be banned soon, but still needed to get one last refund.
