“After literally hundreds of trips to the economy, I finally found my white whale,” the person wrote in the thread. r/ThriftStoreHauls.

The Reddit page is dedicated to the best thrift store finds, and sometimes shoppers share their tricks for identifying valuable items.

This time, the saver’s advice was less about knowing what to look for and more about being kind.

“The team is worth making friends with,” he said in the post.

“I was about to leave until one of them called me to look at something unrelated and then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it!

“Omega Seamaster! I paid a whopping 4 dollars…”

The thrifter proudly shared a photo of the vintage Omega watch dating back to the 1960s.

Immediately after the post, other investors expressed their shock at the low price, while others questioned the accessory’s true value.

“What?!?” one commenter responded while another noted, “You can find a lot of Omega Seamaster watches, but not for 4 dollars.”

“The new ones are around $5k, but I’m not sure about the old ones, probably a little less unless they’re a special variant,” said another Redditor in response to a question about their value.

Although one comment stated that the watch could be worth between $500 and $600 “depending on condition,” this may be understating its true value.

With no confirmation of the Seamaster model the thrifter caught on, similar Seamasters from the 1960s are for sale on eBay for around $1,000.

The true value will depend on its condition, but with the popularity of the Omega Seamaster coupled with the good condition it appears to be in the image, the saver has found a winner.

Omega Seamasters tend to sell for between $380 and $23,100 on the private sales market, according to Watch charts with eBay being the largest private seller.

The Seamaster collection began in 1948 and continues to be extremely popular.

They are “celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship and innovative technology,” according to Omega.

A modern version of the 1957 Seamaster 300 is currently being sold by Omega for a price a whopping $54,700.00.

Meanwhile, another investor shared how a $2 print ended up being worth $7,000.

The part-time eBay dealer found a painting at Goodwill and purchased it because of the attractive colors and signature recognition.

“I had to pinch myself,” revealed the saver after forcing himself to look beyond the frame.
