ALDI shoppers have criticized the supermarket chain because certain products are a waste of money.
They denounced the lack of quality, downplaying the German grocer’s strengths in a specific aisle.
In a post on the Aldi subreddit, a customer went on a rant about the deteriorating quality of products at his local store.
“For years I never thought the constant complaints of rotten produce would affect my Aldi,” the shopper wrote. “But happened.”
They shared how they would buy seemingly fresh produce from the Minneapolis Aldi only to watch it begin to mold the next day.
“Ignoring the products would make it difficult to justify Aldi purchases, but never taking my coin out of the till would feel wrong,” they said.
‘IT’S NOT THEIR STRENGTH’
Many shoppers shared similar sentiments about the quality of Aldi’s fresh items.
One customer described his “surreal” experience at the grocery store, noting that the product was the worst he had ever seen.
There was visible mold on 80% of the products, which left a horrible smell – “like a cloud of rot hanging over that section of the store”.
Others noted problems with the ripening of Aldi’s products.
“Overripe or overripe! Production is not his strong point,” said one of them.
Another Aldi customer agreed, giving bananas and avocados as examples.
The purchase of underripe bananas went straight from underripe to rotten, while the avocados they purchased failed to ripen despite being out for a long time.
“I got burned by avocados! Never again. Don’t like wasting money,” agreed a third shopper.
Some customers have suggested thorough cleaning of produce to combat rapid rotting of produce.
They mentioned the effectiveness of rinsing products with vinegar, claiming it makes products last longer.
Others said that fully drying produce before placing it in the refrigerator would increase its longevity, as well as using glass jars or airtight containers to store produce.
Another shopper suggested filling out the survey at the bottom of the receipt multiple times to draw attention to the issue.
Aldi Return Policy

Aldi has a return policy that can benefit customers who try edible products and don’t like them. It’s called the Twice as Nice Guarantee and it allows customers to try something else at no cost. The US Sun put together a short list of the rules and benefits of the policy on the retailer’s website.
- It must be an Aldi brand product
- Receipt is mandatory
- Original packaging of the item is required
- Any remaining unused portion of the food or drink must be visible
- Meeting the requirements will result in a full refund
- Aldi customers can also get a replacement product for their problems
“That’s the only way companies know anything. They pay attention. Complaining to your store employees doesn’t help,” they wrote.
Other shoppers also filed complaints about the German grocer.
Several Aldi shoppers have warned of a “disgusting” taste among its new coffee creamers.
Another Aldi shopper criticized the fan favorite which now “tastes like sadness”.
