A COSTCO buyer questioned why he was denied a typical cash refund for an item he purchased less than a month ago.
One of the biggest perks of shopping at Costco is the return policy.
The retailer has a 100% satisfaction guarantee that offers full refunds on most items.
Customers got their money back on crazy items like old mattresses and half-eaten food.
That’s why Gregory was so upset when he was told he wouldn’t get a cash refund for a portable starter he had purchased less than a month earlier.
He explained the situation in a Facebook post to a group at the Costco store in Commack, New York.
“This may seem a little petty, and I generally don’t like to vent. But I had a rather irritating experience today at the Costco returns counter,” he wrote on publish.
“I was doing my dad a favor and returning a portable starter that wasn’t working properly with his Nissan Juke.
“When I told the employee at the returns desk about the situation, she told me that this is the second time I have attempted to return a jumping starter kit under my father’s signature and that if I try to do this again, they will deny my refund. .”
Gregory was unaware of the previous return and thanked the employee for the warning.
After that, she told him he could only get store credit instead of cash.
When he asked if the refund could be applied to the debit card used to make the purchase, she “condescendingly” said store credit was the only option.
“Normally this wouldn’t bother me so much, but I hear all these stories about people returning half-empty bottles of milk, juice or wine. Or electronics/furniture purchased more than a year ago and receive money back in your hands. original form of payment,” he wrote.
“Why did she have to criticize me for trying to return a jump starter kit in its original condition, purchased less than a month ago?”
In the comments, people shared surprisingly similar stories.
“I must have had the same person who once belittled me for a comeback. I don’t usually return it, but she made a point of giving me her two cents as if she had to pay me out of her own pocket,” wrote one person.
“Seeing your post reminded me of this; happy and sad to have confirmation of how wrong she was.”
Another shopper said: “There is a person who works the returns desk and acts as if the return is coming out of his pocket.
“I’m afraid I’ll have to deal with her. I just returned a vacuum cleaner this week and got an earful. She made my return, but not without her two cents. The rest of the staff is great. It seems like we had the same employee.”
“They are getting too big for their britches,” wrote a third customer.
REVOKED
Former Costco member Maryam had her membership revoked after trying to return a printer.
She had purchased the printer six years earlier and had problems with it immediately, but was never able to return it.
The printer wasn’t listed as one of the electronics with a 90-day return limit, so she decided to try to return it.
An employee said returns would not be allowed when she brought it to the store.
A manager brought a list and said that they had made many returns and that they would not be processed.
