To celebrate the new service, the store is offering a delivery fee waiver for the first order of $35 or more placed on the Food Lion To Go website or app.

The standard delivery fee is $3.99 for orders over $35 and $7.99 for orders under $35.

Delivery will now be available via Instacart in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia, reports Supermarket News.

Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia also offer delivery.

With this expansion, Food Lion offers delivery in more than 90% of its operating area across 10 states.

“Food Lion To Go’s home delivery can be especially beneficial to our customers,” said Evan Harding, Director of Digital and eCommerce at Food Lion, in a Press release.

“With home delivery, we make grocery shopping easier and more convenient, allowing our customers to spend more time outdoors and with their families, enjoying picnics, barbecues and other summer activities.”

Food Lion has more than 1,100 stores in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

KEEPING UP

This update comes as Walmart also makes a major expansion in its delivery services.

The retailer announced that its drone delivery program would now reach 75% of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area.

The area is one of Walmart’s first metro zones to receive the technology upgrade.

New launch sites will open at Walmart stores in North Texas to facilitate the expansion of the program.

Wing, the drone company that partnered with the store, has completed 20,000 successful deliveries.

“This expansion will bring the ultimate convenience of drone delivery to communities throughout the DFW area,” said Prathibha Rajashekhar, senior vice president of innovation and automation at Walmart, in a press release.

“Customers will have access to a wide variety of Walmart items available for home delivery in just minutes.

“Drone delivery isn’t just a concept of the future – it’s happening now and will soon be a reality for millions of other Texans.”

Walmart shoppers can receive deliveries in 30 minutes, but some items can arrive in as little as 10 minutes.

Walmart officials said 85% of products available in a typical Neighborhood Market store meet weight and volume limits for drone delivery.

“Our first few months of delivering to Walmart customers have made it clear: the demand for drone deliveries is real,” said Wing CEO Adam Woodworth.

“The response has been incredible from customers who request drone deliveries to Walmart every day.

“If this milestone is any indication, we believe 2024 will be the year of drone delivery.”

Walmart also recently announced a “health day” to help customers after closing all of its clinics.

Additionally, Kroger spoke out after customers complained about issues with self-checkout in the store.
