A METAL detector made the discovery of a lifetime while searching for relics in a field.
He was initially happy to have discovered a small bell from the 1700s, but what he unearthed next would surprise you.
Michael is a metal detector who shares his adventures on the YouTube channel, nugget.
In a recent video, he discovered land where houses used to exist in the 18th century.
His first discovery was a small bell used in horse riding, much like a sleigh bell.
Michael estimated that the bell was from the 18th century.
The next day, he returned to the same field and made another discovery that would be much more exciting.
His detector went off on a patch of dirt, and as Michael picked up the dirt with his hands, he noticed gold.
“Oh my God, I can’t stop shaking,” he said.
It was the first time he had found a gold coin after 15 years of metal detecting.
“It took me 15 years of metal detecting and thousands of hours in the field, but I finally did it!” he said.
Michael washed the coin with water to reveal that it was a British semi-sovereign coin dated 1871 with Queen Victoria’s head on the obverse.
‘DATE OF A LIFETIME’
“This is a beautiful coin, I couldn’t be happier,” commented the coin expert.
Michael said it was “mint shaped” and called it the “find of a lifetime.”
A half-sovereign tin from 1871 raise more than $500and more than two million of them were produced at the London Mint.

Michael’s fans were very impressed with his discovery.

“I don’t know anyone who deserves it more!” said another.
“This is the dream discovery of a lifetime, for sure, but I hope you find many more!”
