COSTCO customers can breathe a sigh of relief after the retailer backtracks on permanent changes to opening hours.
Two locations in Stanislaus County, California, are set to reduce operating hours starting June 10.
Costco warehouses in Modesto and Turlock announced the plans Thursday.
They are currently open from 9am to 8:30pm on weekdays and from 9am to 7pm on weekends.
This should change to 10am to 8.30pm on weekdays, 9.30am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
Gas stations were also scheduled to close an hour earlier on weekends at 7pm.
However, the general manager of Costco in Modesto decided that the changes would no longer be implemented.
Instead, Michael Tajiri decided to see “how everything goes” while the wholesaler awaits the opening of a new warehouse in the area, The Modest Bee reported.
However, the warehouse in Turlock also confirmed that hours will remain as they are for the foreseeable future.
The new Riverbank warehouse will open its doors at 8am on June 13th.
24 hour closure
Despite the good news that hours won’t change at this time, Costco shoppers will have to do without the retailer for one day this month.
This comes as the chain closes all stores for 24 hours in honor of Memorial Day.
This year, the annual holiday will fall on May 27 and all Costco locations are scheduled to reopen at their usual time of 10 a.m. the next day.
Memorial Day is one of the seven days of the year when all Costo stores close their doors.
This also occurs on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
‘CRAZY’
Shoppers reacted to the news on Facebook by warning of huge lines after a Costco employee encouraged customers to shop in advance.
“We will be CLOSED on Monday, May 27th in celebration of the #MemorialDay holiday,” the employee said in a publish.
Stores closed on Memorial Day

Since Memorial Day is a federal holiday, many Americans have time off from work.
While most supermarkets and retailers remain open, there are some exceptions
Costco is closing all stores all day.
The same goes for Natural Grocers, which has 168 stores in 20 states.
Postal services will also be affected by the holiday.
All UPS locations will be closed.
FedEx will close many locations, while others will operate reduced hours.
“Stop in today to get all the essentials for barbecues, etc., to celebrate the lives sacrificed for our freedoms.”
“Good for them! So if you shop at Costco, shop early,” one customer he said.
“The more people know about this, the longer the queues at the control desks will be!”
“It’s going to be crazy,” a Costco employee responded.
