Who is the founder of Bass Pro Shops, Johnny Morris?
Johnny Morris is an American billionaire businessman.
He is the founder, majority owner and current CEO of Bass Pro Shops.
Morris’ net worth is estimated at $8.3 billion.
Morris got his start in 1972 when, at age 24, he began selling fishing equipment at his father’s Brown Derby liquor store in Springfield, Missouri.
Morris also credits his father, a World War II veteran, for instilling in him a love of the outdoors, often taking him fishing and hunting in his youth.
As Morris’s customer base grew, they requested specialized equipment, leaving him to create a Bass Pro Shops catalog in 1974.
In 1981, he opened his first store in Missouri, followed by a second store in Duluth, Georgia in 1995.
From then on, Morris continued opening a few stores a year and later acquired Cabela’s in 2017.
That same year, Morris opened the Johnny Morris Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium in Springfield, sharing a location with the first and original Bass Pro Shops store.
