Is 24 Hour Fitness open on Memorial Day?

24 Hour Fitness is not only the second largest fitness chain in the US based on revenue, but also the fourth largest chain by number of clubs.

24 Hour Fitness operates in 11 states and has more than 7,500 employees, and as its name suggests, each location is typically open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There are some exceptions to this rule and hours occasionally vary depending on the network’s location.

Fitness enthusiasts looking to break a sweat at their local 24 Hour Fitness are in luck, as most of its 280+ locations promise to open as scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

The 24-hour fitness centers will be open 24/7 all weekend long, including Saturday, May 25th, Sunday, May 26th, and Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th.

The last time these gyms experienced widespread closures was due to Covid-19, when fitness clubs and gyms across the country were forced to close their doors.

However, gym-goers can start the summer season off with a bang by working out and staying in shape any time of day this Memorial Day weekend.

As always, there may be one or two exceptions to this rule, so fitness fans are encouraged to contact their local 24 Hour Fitness before making any Memorial Day gym plans.

As its name suggests, 24 Hour Fitness is rarely closed, even during major federal holidays.

The gym is open 24/7 with a few notable exceptions.

Otherwise, 24 Hour Fitness remains open on other federal holidays, including Easter Sunday, July 4th and Labor Day.

When was 24 Horas Fitness founded?

24 Hour Fitness was founded in 1983 by Mark Mastrov.

Mastrov is also the former CEO of the network and part of the Sacramento Kings ownership group.

After making regular visits to a local gym due to a knee injury, Mastrov bought out the owner and transformed the facility into a 24-hour fitness space.

He merged with a California gym, Family Fitness, in 1996, and changed the gym’s name from 24 Hour Nautilus to 24 Hour Fitness.

The gym became popular in the 2000s when it became a sponsor of the 2004-2008 US Olympic teams.

The fitness network also partnered with NBC to develop a weight loss competition show, The Biggest Loser.

The club eventually expanded worldwide, with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, but became exclusive to the US after its subsidiary, CalFit, was sold to a Hong Kong company.

In June 2020, 24 Hour Fitness declared bankruptcy due to Covid-19, but managed to remain intact after closing several dozen gyms.

As of May 2024, 24 Hour Fitness has more than 280 clubs in 11 states, including:
