Whether you’re shopping for that missing item, stocking up on grilling staples, or don’t want to show up empty-handed to Memorial Day 2024 festivities, shoppers should keep in mind that stores may have different opening and closing times leading up to the holiday.
Is Stop & Shop open on Memorial Day 2024?
All Stop & Shop Supermarket Company locations will be open during Memorial Day Weekend 2024.
This includes Saturday, May 25, Sunday, May 26, and Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024.
While most Stop & Shop locations are open as normal, customers should keep in mind that some locations may not offer all services as normal.
For example, pharmacies in certain locations may operate reduced hours and close earlier during the day.
Some departments, such as the floral, bakery and deli sections, may also be working with limited staff in select stores.
Same-day pickup and delivery orders may also be affected by the holiday, so it is recommended to check with your local store before placing any online orders.
Not all Stop & Shop locations operate the same business hours.

Stop & Shop is closed on Christmas Day, December 25th each year.
The chain also closes at 6pm on Christmas Eve, December 24, allowing employees to spend the night and the following day with their families.
Stop & Shop also has limited opening hours every Easter Sunday, opening doors at around 7am and closing until 2pm.

Who founded Stop & Shop?
In 1892, Solomon and Jeanie Rabinowitz opened a grocery store called the Greenie Store in Boston’s North End.
While the store closed in 1908, the Rabinowitz family opened another store in Somerville, Massachusetts called Economy Grocery Stores Company in 1914.
After switching to a self-checkout model pioneered by the Piggly Wiggly chain, more stores began opening, adding items such as dairy, meat, produce and frozen foods to their regular grocery offerings.
In 1946, the chain, which already had 86 supermarkets, officially changed its name to Stop & Shop, Inc.
In 1995, Stop & Shop was a wholly owned subsidiary of Ahold, a Dutch supermarket operator.
In 2015, Ahold merged with the Delhaize Group, a Belgian store conglomerate.
Stop & Shop, now owned by the new holding company Ahold Delhaize, is a sister company to its former competitor, Food Lion.
Today, there are more than 400 Stop & Shop locations in several states, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.
