A WALMART shopper criticized the retailer for its use of self-checkouts and shared her extreme reaction to them.

She explained why she would leave her basket at the Walmart store and leave in response to the machinery.

Leanne Fuller shared her opinion on a Facebook post about a Walmart store that replaced its self-checkout lanes with cashiers.

A store in Shrewsberry, Missouri, began making the change in April 2024, according to ABC affiliate KSWO.

Fuller shared his thoughts on the controversial machinery in the comments on a Facebook publish.

“I don’t like self-checkouts and I’m not going to use them, I’m going to leave my basket right there and walk away, I’m too old to shop, then checkout, then pack it up and take it to the car and then load it. he wrote.

Others shared similar sentiments when talking about the kiosk.

“Finally, a smart decision. I won’t self-check even if there are no ‘staffed check-out lines’. The only thing staff monitoring or the customer service department will do. I don’t believe in filling jobs with machines or make the customer do it,” another customer wrote.

“I’ll wait in a long line before using self-checkout. You make people who are guests at your store work and then raise the price. Mmmm… that might be why now I only shop there when it can’t be helped.” , added a third person.

The store has heard protests from customers in recent years and told the station it made the change to improve the customer experience.

THE END OF SELF-CHECKOUT

Walmart stores across the country are getting rid of their self-checkout kiosks.

The retailer announced last month that it will get rid of self-checkout at one of its St Louis, Missouri, and one of its Cleveland, Ohio locations, according to TIME.

Brian Little, a company spokesman, explained that, like the Shrewberry location, the decision was based on customer feedback, according to Business Insider.

“We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the opportunity to provide more personalized and efficient service,” he said.

The process took two weeks to get rid of the kiosks, and the store removed them after opening hours.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the upgrades, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

However, one buyer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and admitted he had some concerns.

“If they remove self-checkout, they better have more cash registers or things will get ugly very quickly,” they wrote.

They also added that waiting times at these locations have also been a problem.

“No one wants to wait in line the length of the store,” they added.

Another buyer also shared his thoughts on the matter.

“I don’t know what’s worse,” wrote another customer on X.

“Cashiers who don’t know what they’re doing or customers who are surprised that they have to pay for everything in their cart.”
