SAM’S Club is implementing new technologies in its stores to improve the efficiency of the receipt verification process.

However, many buyers pointed out major concerns with the new AI technology.

Sam’s Club is known for its bulk products and wide product selection, but also for its long lines to exit the store.

After scanning their items, shoppers are required to present their paper or digital receipts to an employee at checkout.

However, executives used artificial intelligence and computer vision technology to create technology that verifies your purchases as you pass by, eliminating the need for receipt checks.

It works for shoppers who use the Scan & Go feature or complete their purchases at checkouts.

The blue gates, located at the exit, are equipped with cameras and scanners that inventory the products in customers’ carts and compare them with their orders.

Although the product was designed to improve checkout efficiency, Sam’s Club shoppers pointed out a major problem with the technology.

A Sam’s Club fan page (@samsclublovers) shared a post on Instagram about changing the receipt check, and several customers pointed out that the technology doesn’t work as expected.

One Instagram user commented that they were not asked to present the digital receipt, but several mentioned that they still needed to present the receipt even after going through the technology.

“This is useless as there is still an employee with a scanner after I pass this who still checks my code and items,” commented one customer.

“One of my local Sam’s Clubs has this, but there is still a person at the exit who scans my QR code and checks my cart. So honestly, I don’t know how this is different from the Scan & Go option. Maybe they haven’t set it up correctly. ,” wrote another.

Others had a positive experience with the new technology.

“I like it… I use Scan & Go [and] When I went through this, I was cleared! They didn’t scan my ticket. He just told me to have a great day! shared a client.

NEW TECHNOLOGY

Sam’s Club first revealed the checkout technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

“This is Sam’s Club at its best, listening to member feedback, putting their needs at the center of everything we do – and then applying digital innovations to deliver an industry-leading member experience,” said Chris Nicholas, CEO of Sam’s Club.

“We are constantly looking for ways to make Sam’s Club the most convenient membership club and will continue to prioritize the use of technology to provide a truly differentiated and enjoyable experience for our members.”

At the time, the technology was being tested in 10 pilot stores.

As of April 30, it had been deployed in more than 120 locations.

The technology resulted in a “frictionless checkout experience” and 23% faster checkout for members, according to a press release.

Sam’s Club plans to install the arches at its nearly 600 clubs by the end of 2024.

IS IT REALLY NEW?

Sam’s Club’s technology isn’t necessarily new, as Amazon has used similar technology.

Amazon launched its first Amazon Go convenience store in Seattle in 2018, along with its Just Walk Out technology, which allows shoppers to skip the checkout process.

The technology uses AI, cameras and sensors to monitor customers as they shop and automatically charge their Amazon accounts for items.

Amazon said the technology is currently in 140 third-party stores and will double this year.

In related news, Sam’s Club is offering 50% off membership for the next two days — you’ll get an extra hidden benefit for your family.

Plus, shoppers are begging Walmart to use the new receipt checker after it launches at Sam’s Club.
