A COSTCO member has issued a warning about a common supermarket trick.

They advised shoppers to pay close attention to a sign in the store that could help them determine whether or not the unique hack is allowed at the warehouse retailer.

In other stores, the banana section can be adjusted since they are weighed by the kilo, according to the Costco member.

Instead of buying fruit in bunches, which are often wrapped together, the member claimed that individual bananas could be separated and removed before being weighed at the checkout.

“PSA since this is surprising everyone,” they wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“YES, YOU CAN SEPARATE BUNCHES OF BANANAS IN THE STORE!!”

“They sell them by the pound, not by the batch,” the Costco insider continued.

“If you’ve already managed to get a small group, it’s because I came before you and separated them.”

The customer continued to claim that a single banana could even be purchased.

While this may be true at other retailers, they quickly discovered it was not allowed at Costco, and a sign was seen near the section that bananas could only be purchased in bunches.

The member said he almost had his membership revoked when he tried to do so at Costco without noticing the sign.

“Yeah haha no one does that at Costco and my membership gets revoked,” they wrote.

‘The system is terribly broken,’ angers Costco member as essential service takes an hour – but customer has ‘quick fix’

“Pay attention to the sign if it says by group or pound.”

The member added that Costco typically has a band wrapped around its bananas or sells them in protective bags.

RELAXED RETURNS

While Costco may not be as relaxed about how it allows customers to buy bananas, its return policy has received a lot of attention in recent months from customers who claim that some shoppers “abuse” it because it is too lenient.

The warehouse retailer’s return policy has limited staying power, with only several technology items having a 90-day return window — and alcohol, cigarettes and a few others having lesser restrictions.

Costco Return Policy

What are the details of the famous return policy?

“We guarantee your satisfaction with every product we sell and will refund the purchase price,” said the return policy States.

There are some exceptions to this 100% satisfaction guarantee, which are:

  • Electronics – Returns will be accepted within 90 days from the date the member received the product.
  • Diamonds – 1.00 ct or larger must be returned with all original documentation within 48 hours and will be inspected for authenticity.
  • Cigarettes and alcoholic beverages – These items cannot be returned by law.
  • Items with a limited shelf life, such as batteries and tires, cannot be returned.
  • Special order kiosk and custom installed programs may only be returned or refunded if under warranty repair/replacement.
  • Gold bars, silver bars and coins are non-refundable.
  • Store Cards are non-refundable.
  • Airline and live performance event items are non-refundable.

Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if the customer is dissatisfied.

“We guarantee your satisfaction with every product we sell with a full refund”, says the policy.

MONEY PLEASE

The statement paved the way for some wild returns witnessed by Costco members, including half-eaten food and even 10-year-old mattresses with pee stains.

One shopper said he witnessed someone return wilted Valentine’s Day flowers a week after the holiday, demanding a refund.

Given that flowers naturally wither and die, the request would seem illogical — but Costco’s policy must honor buyer dissatisfaction.

Others called out their colleagues, asking if they were embarrassed about returning $200 worth of half-eaten, cooked meats.

The US Sun also tells the story of a woman who demanded a full refund for a 69-cent drink that wasn’t “the right temperature.”
