A COSTCO customer canceled her membership after she was told her daughter was not allowed to use the card to make purchases.

One of the main benefits of being a Costco member is that it includes two cards.

Even the most basic $60 membership comes with two cards for people who live in the same household.

But one family was told their daughter could not use the card.

“I canceled my Costco membership and credit card today,” the shopper he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Can’t my college student daughter who lives with us use her parents’ membership card?

“Are you forcing those who live in the same house to pay for another subscription?”

The shopper asked why Costco was unable to check his daughter’s address to see if she was also a family member.

This appears to be part of a larger crackdown on member sharing.

Costco recently began asking customers for their membership cards and photo ID at self-checkout and employee manners records, ABC News affiliate KABC-TV reports.

Some locations have also started asking members to scan their cards to enter the warehouse.

“We don’t think it’s right that non-members receive the same benefits and prices as our members,” Costco said in announcing the change.

But customers don’t like the changes.

“You already need to scan your card to pay,” noted one customer on X.

“The only thing this will cause is more chaos and long lines to get into the store. I already try to limit my trips to Costco to once a month because I hate crowds.

“This will NOT improve the customer experience.”

Another person said that Sam’s Club would “never” implement such a policy, so they preferred to shop there.

ASSOCIATION MISHAP

A Costco member had his membership suspended after the store made a refund error.

“Returning the item was easy, no issues during the transaction,” they wrote in a post on Reddit.

But then, Costco accidentally refunded them twice for the product.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

A store supervisor called them to explain the error that caused the shopper to have more than $400 invested on his Costco Citi Visa card.

To make matters worse, your membership would be suspended until Costco could correct the situation.

“I was shocked that they held my subscription hostage due to a random error on their part,” the buyer wrote.

One thing Costco customers aren’t complaining about is the new $5 food court meal that rivals the hot dog combo.

But a new policy limits who can dine in the food court.
