A COSTCO member compared the savings he gained through a little-known policy to winning the lottery.

The ecstatic customer recently used the warehouse retailer’s benefit to negotiate a large purchase.

Costco has an automotive program that offers incentives and discounts to members looking for a new, used vehicle, RV, or maintenance and repairs.

Buyers can go to a page dedicated to the program on the Costco website and enter your ZIP code to find dealerships that work with the brand.

They can then get pre-approved pricing and avoid the hassles that sometimes come with going through a dealership on their own.

It appears that a member looking for a new car did just that recently and claimed they were able to save almost $2,000 by doing so, according to a post on Reddit.

They explained that as a long-time Honda customer, it was time to upgrade their 2007 EX-L CRV to a new 2024 CR-V Hybrid Sport AWD.

After locating a dealer, the car was priced at $36,175, with an $875 discount at Costco putting it at $35,300.

The member waited for the model he wanted to arrive in the right colors and got in touch as soon as one appeared in the online batch.

Except, once it arrived at the dealer, the price for the 2024 CR-V Hybrid Sport AWD was significantly higher than the Costco shopper expected.

“When I got there to sign the paperwork, the first contract he gave me to sign was for $42,000,” they noted in the Reddit post.

“This was after appraising my 2007 EX-L CRV for $2,000.”

‘The system is terribly broken,’ angers Costco member as essential service takes an hour – but customer has ‘quick fix’

Through some negotiation and the removal of several “unwanted fees,” the customer said their trade-in was revalued at $4,500, and the Costco discount was even bigger than they thought, at $1,675.

“I feel like I won the lottery!” the member exclaimed.

They’ve certainly made the most of the little-known program, and Costco often runs exclusive promotions through it, with one happening right now.

LIMITED TIME OFFER

A special savings event is available through July 31 for Costco members looking to purchase new vehicles from select brands.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

Those in the market for Chevrolet, Volvo, Cadillac and GMC vehicles can save money on their next purchase.

Others looking for Polestar RVs and motorhomes can also pay significantly less than expected for eligible models.

More information about the offer can be found on the Costco website website.

Several Costco policies have caught members’ attention recently.

Someone claimed they were faced with a “mandatory” rule at their local store that could negatively impact those without smartphones.

Another customer requested change after “abusing” Costco’s generous return policy.
