FIVE Guys has abruptly closed one of its restaurants, but locals say they’re not surprised.

The fast-food restaurant in New Milford, Connecticut closed its doors for good on June 9th.

A sign taped to the restaurant’s door over the weekend stated that the business “is permanently closed.”

However, Five Guys officials reportedly said CT Insider that there has been no news of closures regarding the New Milford location.

Meanwhile, the sign on the door instructed customers to visit another location nearby.

“Sorry for the inconvenience,” he said as he directed customers to the Five Guys in Brookfield, which is 9 miles away.

The chain has more than a dozen locations across the state that customers can still visit.

However, it’s unknown why the New Milford location closed its doors, although locals say it was probably because of money.

In a local Facebook group, a resident asked if the closure were true.

Other Facebook users confirmed the closure and reacted to the news in the comments, with many saying the same thing about its prices.

“It’s not a surprise. Almost no one is there,” one of them said.

“We love the food, but it’s too expensive for a regular visit. I think a lot of people felt that way.”

“They would have done better with realistic pricing,” read another comment.

“You can have dinner at the table for the price of fast food,” said a third.

“I’m not entirely surprised,” commented one resident as she recalled being there alone with her family on Saturday night as residents left the restaurant.

Many also noted that the restaurant’s location made it easily overlooked.

It appears local residents are on the right track after someone familiar with the situation discussed sales issues.

Steve Dudziec, leasing representative for Regency Centers, the company that manages the New Milford Plaza where the restaurant was located, spoke to CT Insider about the closure.

Restaurant Closings in 2024

BOSSes of major restaurant chains have announced a series of restaurant closures. The US Sun has compiled a list of those affected by the network.

  • Biscuit Barrel: Stores in Medford, Oregon, Columbia, South Carolina and Sacramento, California, closed.
  • Mod Pizza: Bosses drastically closed 27 stores, including in the state of California.
  • Frisch’s Big Boy: Restaurant bosses have confirmed the closure of a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky.
  • Two dolars: Four restaurants in Ohio are set to close.
  • Pepper: A restaurant in Port Arthur, Texas, has closed permanently.
  • Friendly: Bosses have confirmed that an establishment in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, will close.
  • Pizza Hut: A restaurant in Glen Falls, New York, closed at the end of March.
  • Danny: Two restaurants in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, have closed.
  • Carl’s Jr.: The first location in Boise, Idaho, has closed.

“I imagine it’s related to sales,” he said.

“It’s very likely they’re not getting the sales they’re looking for.”

He claimed he had heard about the closure a few days before it closed and was working hard to “figure out what the store is and why it’s closing.”

“We were not notified,” he added before saying he had not spoken directly to the fast food chain about the change.

On the local Facebook page, it was rumored that local employees were also not notified that they had discovered the closure just five days before it occurred.

US Sun has reached out to Five Guys for comment.

Price concerns come as California fast-food chains are forced to pay workers a minimum wage of $20 an hour.

The new law is causing numerous chains, including McDonald’s and Chipotle, to raise their prices to offset the wage increase.
