A MAJOR retailer is making some new changes to its store format shortly after opening its 100th store.
Buyers will benefit from additional consultations to make their houses perfect.
The Container Store is opening two new locations in a new, smaller store format.
Both in Virginia, the first is scheduled to open on Saturday in Springfield.
A second will take place in Ashburn on July 27th.
Shoppers can expect a more compact store layout that will include a design center and The Container Store’s Custom Spaces Studio.
This studio will feature customizable products for closets, living areas, and garages.
Customers will be able to discover exclusive products in categories such as travel, pet care and home fragrances.
Those interested in getting seriously organized can even schedule a complimentary in-store or in-home design consultation.
Meanwhile, professional installation and home organization services will be offered for a fee.
The Container Store has now surpassed 100 locations, with the two new Virginia stores bringing its all over the country Store count up to 104.
Senior Vice President of Stores Jennifer Pape said in a press release: “Our differentiated offering of personalized spaces, complementary organization solutions and home services is a retail experience customers can’t find anywhere else, and we have pleased to bring this offering closer to customers in Springfield and Ashburn who have shopped at our neighboring locations.”
New customers at the Springfield location this weekend can enter to win a $500 custom space makeover.
SMALL THINGS
Container Store’s decision to open small format stores follows an industry trend.
In recent years, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Kohl’s and Ikea have experimented with smaller locations.
Macy’s announced plans last year to accelerate the opening of its small-format stores, with 30 new locations nationwide to open starting in 2024.
Retailers going small
Retailers that have announced plans to open small-format stores include
- Macy’s
- Nordström
- Kohl’s
- Ikea
Store director Marc Mastronardi said at the time: “This new smaller format is one of the ways we are working to meet the needs of our customers by innovating to introduce a new flexible, dynamic and efficient retail store format.”
Meanwhile, Ikea is expanding its presence in the US with a total of 17 new stores, the company announced last month.
Nine of these new stores will have a new, smaller format, more suited to urban areas.
Instead of stocking entire inventory like typical Ikea stores, these stores will serve as touchpoints for customers to plan their home projects and purchase products for delivery.
