A COSTCO customer canceled his subscription after 15 years due to a warranty issue with his new washing machine, but others say it’s not the store’s fault.
Costco offers customers a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all of its products.
While most products can be returned at any time if they do not meet buyers’ standards, some items have a limited return window.
One customer learned this the hard way when his washing machine started leaking after Costco’s 90-day warranty expired.
When they asked for help, a Costco employee said LG’s warranty was good for a full year and referred them to the company for any additional issues.
“The problem is they do 99% of customer interaction and scheduling through a horrible level of tortuous Guantanamo Bay automated support,” they he wrote in a Reddit post.
Unfortunately, the buyer had two appointments where the technician never showed up and three other appointments that the company canceled before they happened.
“Fast forward to where I am now. Costco is unwilling to refund me and says I have to go through Concierge Support, which I did twice,” they wrote.
“Only form of recourse? Cancel my membership. And my parents. And sister. And aunt. Four accounts are being canceled out of solidarity. All because Costco will not stand behind the products it sells, whether as a retailer or wholesaler.
“It’s been real, it’s been fun, but it hasn’t been very fun, Costco.”
Although the buyer had the unwavering support of his family, other Costco members came down hard on him.
“I understand your frustration, this sucks. But to be fair, Costco’s policy on appliances clearly states that they only have a 90-day return period,” one person responded.
‘I think a large part of your complaint should be with LG’s terrible warranty coverage.
“So you’re canceling your Costco membership because a different company is offering poor customer service?” asked another customer.
“Costco tried to contact other companies on your behalf. It’s not their fault they couldn’t reach you.”
But the original poster doubled down on his beliefs.
“Costco is selling these items. Costco also extends the warranty to two years, so yes, it’s still at Costco,” they wrote.
“Maybe Costco should stop selling products from companies that don’t live up to their warranty.”
THE FINE PRINT
Costco’s return policy is generally very lenient, but some items have stricter rules.
For example, most electronics can only be returned within 90 days from the day the customer receives the product.
Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.
- Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
- Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
- Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
- Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.
