A SHOPPER has hit out at Walmart after their trip to the supermarket was so long it made them late for work.

The frustrated customer blamed the retail giant’s updated self-checkout policy for the negative shopping experience.

They claimed they were “late for work” after waiting at least 10 minutes in line alongside other customers to buy lunch and leave, according to a post on Reddit.

Lines were reportedly blocked due to a sign blocking several self-checkout kiosks for Walmart+ and Spark Drivers members.

Select kiosks reserved for Walmart+ and Spark Drivers began appearing in select Walmart stores nationwide in March.

Many non-subscribing customers were immediately unhappy with the change, claiming that at least 60% of self-checkout kiosks at their locations were now inaccessible.

Some claimed that Walmart was effectively making them pay the $98 annual fee for Walmart+ to use self-checkout.

Walmart has since denied this claim, but many customers are still furious about the change.

Several argued that the retailer did not accommodate the influx of shoppers who would have used self-checkout but must instead opt for checkout lines.

If one or two checkout lines remain open at all times and some self-checkouts are reserved for Walmart+ and Spark Drivers, the subsequent result will be long lines and wait times.

WAITING GAME

One shopper recently said that on his trip to the store he saw at least “over 100 carts” waiting to check out.

Another customer in Canada said the lines were so long that those waiting bought snacks and books to pass the time.

They criticized the store for allegedly “holding customers hostage” with queues to make a profit.

The US Sun previously contacted Walmart for comment on the allegations but did not receive a response.

IT’S ALREADY ENOUGH

A small movement of shoppers even took a stand against the self-checkout policy, leaving their carts behind and walking away.

One shopper earlier this month said he unapologetically “went out and left a cart full” of groceries at the register, frustrated after waiting.

Another “abandoned” his cart and begged Walmart to “hire some employees” for more checkouts.

Some even vowed they would boycott the retailer and attack competitors.

A former Walmart fan said “Target can have my money” after a negative self-checkout experience left them furious.

Walmart has also come under fire this year for alleged excessive charges.

One Walmart+ member said she canceled her subscription just a week after getting it because of “zero assistance” from employees double-billing her account.

Another claimed they were denied a refund after being overcharged for several products.
