TARGET buyers criticized a new policy that was reportedly introduced to limit baseball card sales.

It comes after an eagle-eyed shopper shared a photo of a new store sign on Reddit, which has now been circulated on social media with shoppers sharing their thoughts.

The typed sign was posted above the shelves with packs of baseball cards.

It informed customers that the retailer has the right to prevent them from purchasing the cards in certain circumstances.

“Target reserves the right to prohibit the purchase of any merchandise from retailers,” the sign says shared in Reddit states.

“Resellers are defined as a company or individual who purchases goods with the intention of selling them rather than using them.

“This includes individuals who exhibit behaviors such as searching and weighing packages.”

While card collecting is another way for sports fans to get involved with their passion and their community, it can also be a way to make money.

Most card packs contain base cards that have no value.

This is why those who want to make some money will try to demarcate the packs for sale to find out which ones have valuable cards that they can sell for a profit.

Some of these more valuable cards can be identified by weight.

This is because base cards don’t have the special foiling often found on top draw cards, making them weigh a little more.

While cracking down on dealers is a boon for true card collectors who want to score a pack of a high-value card, some Target shoppers have questioned why the retailer made this decision.

“Weird move to stop dealers,” said one buyer he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“You make the same amount of money either way. While Target has the right to do this, I’m skeptical.”

“It’s sad that this sign was printed and posted,” one person wrote in the Reddit thread.

“I think it’s good to limit ‘resellers,’ but there’s no way Target can enforce this effectively,” said another.

“Most of the time I use self checkout and no one looks at what I’m buying.

What does Target’s new policy state?

The following statement was written on a typed sign pictured by a Target shopper on shelves containing trading cards:

Target reserves the right to prohibit the purchase of any merchandise from retailers.

Resellers are defined as a company or individual who purchases goods with the intention of selling them rather than using them.

This includes individuals who exhibit behaviors such as searching and weighing packages.

“Is the self-checkout staff member actually going to stop someone? I highly doubt it.”

“How would they know?” another asked.

Meanwhile, others celebrated the move saying, “it’s about time” and “good for this target!”

The US Sun has reached out to Target for comment and has not yet received a response.

This latest change is just one of many recently introduced by the retailer, including enforcing item limits for shoppers who want to use self-checkout.

There has also been a recent change to Target’s return policy, meaning shoppers should check the brand of the item they want to return to see how much time they have left.
