A COSTCO customer vowed to cancel his subscription after noticing price increases at the store.
The frustrated member claimed that costs at the retail warehouse, known for selling bulk merchandise at a discount, were now higher than some smaller supermarkets in his area.

“Costco is no longer a discount shopping club,” they fumed in one publish for X, formerly Twitter.
“It’s premium retail. I am not renewing my subscription.”
“Costco is now more expensive than your neighborhood grocery store,” the member added.
“This won’t last.”
It’s the grocery stores that the customer may be referring to as having lower prices, but they’re not alone in their complaints with Costco.
A loyal buyer of the brand for more than 20 years said he would finally cancel his subscription due to the rising costs of a specific item.
With three cats at home, the member said they always needed plenty of pet food.
According to them, Costco used to sell the bag they always got for $17, but in recent years it increased to $37.
They said it was like “throwing money away”.
Somebody he said they watched as a box of glass-bottled Mexican Coca-Cola at the retailer rose from “$17.99, then $21.99 in 2021” before finally hitting a price of “$32.99,” according to with a post on Reddit.
Another member argued in an X post that a dozen $3.99 eggs would cost at least $6.79 in 2024.
Several other customers threatened to cancel their Costco memberships for other reasons, including long lines, crowded stores and problems with the food court.

Some are particularly angry about the retailer’s recent crackdown on membership sharing.
Some members spotted new signs posted in the self-checkout areas of their Costco stores that emphasized checking membership cards and ID before customers leave.
Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines
Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.
- Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
- Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
- Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
- Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

“Membership cards are not transferable,” the signs noted.
“Only paying members can make purchases.”
Costco members with Gold Star or Executive Membership can still add additional authorized cardholders for a fee.
Two cards are also always distributed per associated household.
Other Costco rules and policies, including its return policy, have received considerable attention lately.
Some shoppers called it “crazy” as they watched a member return a 15-year-old item for a full refund.
Another member successfully returned two 10-year-old mattresses with pee stains.
