COSTCO shoppers noticed an unfortunate change to an iconic food court meal and discovered that not all bread is created equal.

Costco’s $1.50 hot dog and drink combo is as iconic as the store.

The price has been the same since the business launched in 1984, defying inflation and keeping buyers happy.

But when a customer bought his hot dog on Monday, he realized something was wrong.

“I bought a hot dog at Costco today. They served it on these buns,” the customer wrote on Reddit publish.

The photo showed the huge hot dog hanging from the edges of the miniature bun.

“You can’t even add many condiments. Disappointing.”

In responses, other shoppers said the smaller loaves had been in their stores for at least six months.

“We have had reduced prices for a few months now,” wrote one shopper, referring to the practice of reducing the size of products and keeping the price the same.

A Costco member who has already eaten the buns said they “disintegrate” before you can finish the hot dog.

“I’m ready to petition them to choose a new baker as I know they choose locally,” they said.

Several shoppers pointed out that the type of bread varies by location.

Costco customers complain about ‘slimy and horrible’ chicken that has become ‘strangely spongy’ and a ‘0/10’

Some said their clubs had sesame seed buns, potato rolls and brioche rolls.

When former CFO Richard Galanti retired in March of this year, fans feared the price of the combo would increase.

Galanti was credited with keeping meal prices at $1.50 for many years, and new CFO Gary Millerchip had to make an announcement to calm fans’ fears.

“I want to confirm that the $1.50 hot dog price is safe,” said Millerchip CNN.

ORDER YOURSELF

Costco made another change to its food court that customers didn’t like.

In March, the store began posting signs saying that only members could shop in the food court.

All about hot dogs

Costco introduced the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo in 1984 and it has been the same price ever since.

Former CEO Craig Jelinek explained that when he was COO, then-CEO Jim Sinegal made a point of not changing the price of the meal.

“I came to [Jim Sinegal] one time, and I said, ‘Jim, we can’t sell that hot dog for $50,” Jelinek recalled.

“We’re losing our asses.”

“And he said, ‘If you create this damn hot dog, I’m going to kill you. That’s all I really needed.”

This promise was kept by current CFO Gary Millerchip, who promised that the hot dog price would be safe.

The reaction was instantaneous.

“Costco must be stupid because they lose sales that way. That’s fine. I hope [they] get out of business,” responded one person on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Some buyers have suggested that this rule has always existed but was never enforced.

If you’re thinking about becoming a member so you can keep buying your favorite snack at the food court, Costco is currently offering its prime membership for just $70.
