A COSTCO customer was shocked when he was told his son couldn’t use his membership.

One of the most popular perks of a Costco membership is that it comes with two additional cards for your family.

Having two people at home who can shop is perfect for couples and roommates.

However, the rules about who can buy using the subscription confuse some shoppers.

One customer, Jill, posted on Facebook warning others about the policy when her son was blocked from checking out while trying to use his card.

“I sent my 17 year old son to Cumming Costco to buy three things for his graduation party,” she wrote on publish.

“He wasn’t allowed to buy anything because it wasn’t his card, it was mine – (you have to be 18 to purchase a membership anyway).”

She called Costco and asked if she could authorize the purchase since it was part of her household, but was told no.

“I understand this is the rule because people abuse Costco memberships, but it’s a little frustrating,” Jill said.

“Don’t plan on sending someone else to pick up your Costco items.”

In the comments, other Costco members said they noticed the store “cracking down” on member sharing.

“Now they have a person who asked to see your card in the self-checkout line and they check the photo,” one person wrote.

“I thought it was so stupid. This is why I don’t use Costco,” another Facebook user commented.

Some shoppers said they stopped going to Costco because of the rule.

“We stopped shopping there. Tired of being treated like potential thieves rather than valued members,” added another.

But some customers agreed with the measures and said the changes were for the better.

“There has been a huge problem with people using their friends or associates cards to avoid the annual fee,” commented another.

“I noticed it hasn’t been as crowded since they implemented face-on-card observation.”

“Rules are rules. They had to enforce the rules because people were giving their cards to their friends. The actions of others affect us all,” one customer wrote.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

FOOD COURT CHORA

Costco shoppers on Reddit discussed a “disappointing” change to the classic $1.50 hot dog combo.

“I bought a hot dog at Costco today. They served it on these buns,” the customer wrote on Reddit publish.

The photo showed a huge hot dog hanging from the edges of a much smaller bun.

“You can’t even add a lot of condiments. Disappointing,” they wrote.

In their responses, buyers said that these breads had been appearing in stores for at least six months.

“We have had bread with reduced inflation for a few months now,” wrote one buyer.

“Shrinkflation” refers to reducing the size of products while keeping the price the same.

“I’m ready to petition them to choose a new baker as I understand they choose locally,” said another Reddit user.

Fortunately, some shoppers said their local Costco clubs have switched to better breads.

Some users said their food courts served hot dogs on brioche buns or potato rolls.

In March, Costco made a big change to the food court, limiting who could dine there.

And customers were forced to return 569,000 products that were accused of hurting consumers.
