Winn Dixie is closing its store in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana.

The closure is happening because Aldi purchased all Winn-Dixie stores and other stores owned by Southeastern Grocers Inc.., including Harveys Supermarkets, in August.

The final date to make purchases is July 7, an employee confirmed to The US Sun.

Meanwhile, customers can enjoy sales with up to 50% off.

The Winn Dixie in Metairie will be replaced by an Aldi after a period of renovations.

“As we work through this transition period, conversion plans are still being finalized and we will share more information as it becomes available,” said Meredith Hurley, senior director of communications and community for Southeastern Grocers, in a statement to NOLA.com.

Once opened, it will be Aldi’s 16th store in Louisiana.

Aldi is in the process of acquiring and opening 800 new stores in the South.

In March, store officials said about 50 locations would begin the conversion process during the second half of 2024.

Most of these stores will reopen as Aldi in 2025.

‘WAS NOT IMPRESSED’

However, not everyone is happy that their Winn Dixie is being replaced by a new store.

“I tried Aldi when they opened Vets and wasn’t impressed,” one wrote in a local paper. Facebook group.

“Without bags, I need a coin to operate a shopping cart, and the prices weren’t much different than everyone else. I don’t see much reason to go there.”

“I really don’t care for Aldi. He’s boring,” said another.

A third wrote: “Aldi doesn’t have as many selections as Winn Dixie. I think Winn Dixie has better business too.”

However, others shared their excitement at Aldi’s arrival.

“That is great NEWS“, wrote one.

“Aldi is much cheaper and has a different range of products.”

“I get $100 worth of stuff from Winn Dixie and I get the same stuff from Aldi for $50. I love Aldi,” said another.

Aldi customers said they would shop elsewhere after being told one store would only have self-service tills.

And all 2,387 Aldi locations will change their hours for just one day.
