A TRADER Joe’s customer has revealed the cost of their recent trip to the grocery store as Costco members urge them to reconsider.

They spent hundreds of dollars to buy essential items for their family, including six children.

The receipt showed a total of $444.38, according to the video posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“How much does it cost to feed 6 children”, wrote the customer in the caption.

The receipt quickly went viral among other shoppers, garnering more than 68,000 views, and several encouraged them to opt for Costco for larger grocery trips for a large family.

“Go to Costco,” someone responded.

“Trader Joe’s is literally chips and stuff for your fryer.”

Others expressed a similar sentiment, noting that they only ever go to Trader Joe’s for snacks and other small items.

“It’s really a snack store,” commented one shopper.

“I love TJ’s but there isn’t any store I shop at because they each offer different things I need,” a third added.

Many were simply “shocked”.

Trader Joe’s and Costco are different stores with different business models.

Costco makes change at self-checkout, eliminating popular option – shoppers insist they’re ‘going to Home Depot’

Costco is a warehouse retailer and sells merchandise in bulk at discounted prices.

It also requires customers to sign up for a membership – Gold Star for $60 per year or Executive for $120.

Although shoppers are required to pay the annual membership fee, they should save more money by going to Costco than going to Trader Joe’s or other high-end retailers like Whole Foods to buy groceries.

HAD ENOUGH

Still, several customers have complained about Costco’s prices this year, and some have canceled or threatened to cancel their memberships and turn to competitors like Sam’s Club.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

A member who has been with Costco for two decades recently decided to cancel his membership.

They claimed that three items they would buy frequently tripled in price, including pet food.

The buyer was upset because the bag he would normally buy originally cost $17 but gradually increased to $37.

It was a situation that left them feeling like they were “throwing money away”.

Another member argued that prices at Costco were “more expensive than your neighborhood grocery store” and advised shoppers to go elsewhere.

Other members claimed that Costco’s costs were “too high” as they opted for subscriptions to competitors like BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Sam’s Club has also attracted some Costco customers due to a unique feature that can help some easily move through the crowd.
