WALMART shoppers have criticized price rises on breakfast essentials.
They noticed the increase earlier this summer after comparing current orders with identical ones made four years ago.
The difference has left shoppers perplexed, as some have claimed “insane” inflation rates on groceries across the country since 2020.
It’s no secret that the coronavirus has had a huge impact on the economy and resulted in a devastating situation for the retail sector.
Since then, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has found that consumer prices have increased by about 20.8%, per Bank rate.
Even retail giants like Walmart have struggled to continue their in-store operations and try to keep prices low for customers through 2024 — but many items, including some breakfast essentials, are still expensive.
Jennifer, a frequent shopper at the chain, said she discovered how big the discrepancy was when she and her husband recalled purchasing four 12-packs of drinks for $10.
That prompted her to check her Walmart mobile app for past orders and found a purchase of 30 items, including several cereals, in 2020 for a total of $70.29.
Upon clicking the order button again, a much higher total was generated.

“My husband and I were talking last night about how a 12-pack of drinks is $9 now and how in 2020 I used to get them for 4/$10,” Jennifer wrote in a publish to Facebook in June.
“I decided to go back to my Walmart app and see how much I was paying for a random grocery order.”
“In January 2020, I paid $70.29 for 30 items, added them all to my cart, and repurchased them today,” she continued.
“Today, those 30 items cost $165.42.”
The buyer was shocked by the increase of more than $95 and said the prices, coupled with general increases in the cost of living, made the situation stressful.
“We cannot continue living like this. I can’t be the only one who feels this way,” Jennifer said.
She is not, as another Walmart shopper recently made a similar discovery by going through the same process via the mobile app.

They demanded that the retail giant “explain itself” about a 2022 order that increased by a whopping $288.23, according to the receipt.
The previous price for the 50 items was $126.16 two years ago.
It jumped to $414.39 when they tried to order again last month.

Several who witnessed both shoppers’ receipts said they have since boycotted Walmart and opted for Aldi.
“This is why we shop at Aldi,” wrote one customer.
“This is why I only shop at Aldi now,” echoed another.
“I order from Aldi now because I can get the same amount for the old price,” commented a third.
Aldi also suffered backlash from customers regarding price changes.
A frustrated shopper criticized the chain in February for an alleged 18% price increase in two weeks.
Even so, Aldi announced its “budget” products for customers to help with summer activities.
