COSTCO members have noticed a surprising problem with the retailer’s shopping carts, but there is an unusual solution.

Several customers have claimed that they receive static shocks when using the carts.

“Does anyone other than me have a problem with Costco carts shocking them?” Facebook user Jenni Bryce asked.

On a Reddit wire dedicated to Costco, others said the same thing.

“I pick up the cart and I’m shocked, it happens several times on a shopping trip,” the user explained.

“It makes me anxious going to the store, I don’t know if I need to wear gloves or something because it hurts!!”

“I didn’t know this happened to anyone else, but yes, these cars shock me all the time! It doesn’t happen with carts from other stores, only Costco,” said another.

However, it appears the same bizarre issue is happening at other retailers, as other shoppers agree with Byrce’s Facebook publish.

“Costco, Wal-MartFry’s, and if my husband is pushing the cart and then touches me, he shocks me!” said another user.

“Walmart carts do this to me,” one shopper wrote in the comments.

“My kids laugh at me and ask me ‘What’s your problem,’” she added after admitting to Bryce that she finds it “weird.”

While others joked about the only shock they received was the cost of purchases, one Facebook user suggested a solution to static shocks.

“They are your slippers. It happens to me,” she explained.

Meanwhile, similar comments were made about Reddit with several people saying, “They’re your shoes.”

“Try different shoes with less rubber,” one user suggested.

“It could be you who’s making the static electricity, not the cart.”

“I’m with the ‘these are your shoes’ crowd,” said another.

“I definitely have different pairs of shoes that make this happen more often.”

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

Meanwhile, another solution could be found in wagon wheels, one of them said.

“If the cart wheels don’t turn freely they will generate static electricity that will be discharged by your hands,” said the Reddit user.

“Make sure you choose a stroller with good wheels that push easily.”
