They weren’t happy about rumors that the Sam’s Club app replaced physical cards to “crack down” on card sharing.

Members-only retail warehouse club Sam’s Club is reportedly requiring members to use its app to enter the store and make purchases, according to one user.

For some members, this change is a step too far.

A customer expressed his frustration on social media, tweeting“Sam’s Club is about to start requiring people to use their app in an attempt to crack down on card sharing, I guess?

“And honestly, I might just cancel my subscription.

“Enough!”

It’s unclear whether the user was required to show their app to enter, but that’s not currently Sam’s Club’s official policy.

This potential digital shift is presumably intended to ensure that subscriptions are only used by individuals who have paid for them.

However, it is not known where the rumor came from.

Sam’s Club has not yet announced such a change.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS CHANGING SOON

In a surprising move that drew widespread criticism, Sam’s Club recently announced changes to its Plus membership perks, leaving many loyal shoppers dissatisfied and considering alternatives.

Sam’s Club adds delivery fee

Starting August 19, 2024, the Arkansas-based warehouse chain will discontinue free shipping on Plus member orders, introducing a new $50 minimum spend requirement to qualify for these benefits.

This change, which affects those who pay the annual fee of US$110 for the Plus subscription, was not well received.

Members who had previously enjoyed the convenience of free shipping and fast delivery expressed frustration and disappointment upon learning of the impending policy change.

Many took to social media platforms and online forums to express their discontent, and some even threatened to take their businesses to competitors, notably Costco.

One called the move “stupid,” while another told the retailer to prepare for a “backlash.”

“I love Sam’s – especially the app to skip registering when shopping. But as a Plus member, I’m not renewing,” said user he wrote.

“@SamsClub has already turned off auto-renewal – eliminating free shipping unless I spend $50. Stupid Move Sams Club,” another he said.

“I’m taking my business to Costco,” a third swore.

Meanwhile, a Sam’s Club customer is frustrated with the application of membership rules, feeling that they do not meet his expectations.

And Sam’s Club has a little-known policy that requires customers to pay extra to shop at certain times.
