WALMART shoppers are ready to switch stores after encountering multiple obstacles during and after checkout.

The retailer has been working on better checkout policies based on customer feedback.

One store policy that seems to really trip up shoppers is receipt checks.

It’s very common for Walmart stores to have an employee near the exit who checks receipts, making sure they match what’s in the customer’s cart to prevent theft.

“Hey Walmart, stop asking us to see our receipt after using self-checkout,” wrote Siefe (@sieve) on X, formerly Twitter.

“We’ve already done your job.”

Several other buyers echoed this sentiment.

Customer Lea (@RosieLea_Curio) explained that when an employee tried to look at her receipt, she just “waved at her and continued.”

“No offense to the little old ladies forced to work at Walmart, but if the store doesn’t want people stealing things, they shouldn’t have self-checkout,” she wrote on X.

SWITCHING SIDES

Walmart is now testing removing self-checkout kiosks from stores as a way to make peace with guests.

The company announced this week that it will close self-checkout registrations at two locations: one in Shrewsbury, Missouri, and another in Greenville, South Carolina.

But that doesn’t seem to be the answer either.

“I don’t go to Walmart to shop… as long as the self-checkout is closed…” he wrote another user

“This is SO stupid! So they put these things up to drive people crazy and generate arguments about whether people like them or not. Then when we’re all used to them and some of us love them… they make a big fuss and accept it out,” another X user added.

“I will be very disappointed if this happens at my Walmart.”

“Self-checkouts should be fast lanes; I don’t like using them when I have a big cart full, but if I’m in a hurry and just need one or two small things, then I really don’t want to stand in line for an hour too,” wrote one Facebook user.

“It seems common sense has completely left the building.”

Walmart representatives said the change was driven by customer and employee feedback and research into shopping trends.

“We believe this change helps our associates provide more personalized and efficient service and will improve customer satisfaction and the overall experience in our store,” Walmart wrote in a statement.

Brian Little, director of global communications for Walmart Corporate Affairs, said removing self-checkout machines will increase efficiency.

“We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the opportunity to provide more personalized and efficient service,” he said in an interview with the NBC affiliate. KSDK.

Walmart shoppers are also frustrated with the store’s order pickup service.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.
