One prospective Costco member faced a series of difficulties when signing up.

The buyer shared the situation in an X publish earlier this week, explaining how they tried unsuccessfully to purchase a Costco membership three times online.

“Every time after about five minutes they cancel so I’m starting to think I don’t want to be a Costco member,” user X wrote.

They noted that they contacted Costco via customer service chat, but that was also unsuccessful.

The chat ended the conversation “in less than three minutes” before the customer could ask questions about their sign-up issues.

“I just wanted to buy pieces of eggs and washing powder in bulk, bro… I’ve already paid three times”, said the buyer.

A Costco member in the comments section encouraged the user to sign up at the store, to which he responded, “I guess I have no choice.”

The prospective Costco member explained how they wanted to sign up online because they had a lot to do and wanted to save time by placing a delivery order.

“Clearly the bulk gods don’t want me to do this,” they joked.

COSTCO REVIEW

While the Costco fan was eager to sign up, another a longtime warehouse club shopper was ready to cancel her membership.

‘I never went back,’ says Costco customer who boycotted the store after being forced to join three separate lines during a trip

The executive member of more than 20 years criticized Costco in a one-star review in Consumer Affairs.

She complained that the retailer’s prices consistently increased and that Costco frequently discontinued items.

The buyer alleged that many items the retailer had sold for years were abruptly removed and sold on Costco’s website for double or triple the original price.

“Sam’s Club continues to offer the product at the original price, so obviously there is a price gouging issue with Costco,” she said.

The knowledgeable member also highlighted that Costco has removed many of its services, such as photography services.

“Continuing a Costco membership is not worth it,” the analysis concluded.

A second longtime Costco customer has dropped out of the retailer after a bad encounter with customer service.

Business Association:

  • Purchase for resale

She also left the store a one-star review, detailing how she collected $400 worth of groceries and received a rebate check for $51.41 for herself and her husband, $120 as an executive member.

The customer wanted to renew their membership, but an employee refused to apply the discount to purchases or the membership renewal fee.

At the customer service desk, the purchaser was informed that the employee should have applied the check to the new membership.

“I left the store saying I would never return,” the buyer wrote.

Her husband convinced her to go back inside so they could legitimately redeem the rebate credit, where the couple met with an “unqualified and untrained manager” who reluctantly redeemed the credit.

“Costco lost two very loyal customers today and their management is poor. No customer service skills. No excuses, just mean, mean, grumpy service,” she wrote.

“Terrible. There’s too much competition to be treated this way. Shame on you, Costco.”
