In a recent Facebook publishSharon Ditmar shared her experience at a Kroger store.

The ordeal began when she noticed a discrepancy in her receipt from a previous shopping trip where she had been overcharged for a Pepsi product that was on sale, she wrote in her post.

Ditmar discovered he had been charged $5.99 for a Pepsi item that was supposed to be on sale for $2.99.

Even though it had been 19 days since her purchase, she decided to take up the issue with Kroger, hoping for a straightforward resolution.

However, she encountered resistance.

The store refused to make the adjustment, citing the time that had passed since the purchase.

When Ditmar threatened to call Kroger’s main office, she was told to go ahead because they “didn’t need customers” like her.

The dismissal led Ditmar to return his entire shopping cart, worth US$106.47.

In a comment on his initial post, Ditmar detailed the consequences of his decision to return the groceries.

An associate spent considerable time processing the return while another customer waited in line.

Instead of issuing a simple $12 refund, the associate had to involve another employee, who then had to leave his customer to help.

The cart full of groceries that Ditmar had selected had to be restocked and the eight used bags were thrown away.

“This cost the company more time and money, the $12,” she wrote.

“No more customer service!”

CUSTOMER REACTIONS

The incident touched many, generating a flood of comments on Ditmar’s post.

“Good for you and thanks for passing this along!” wrote one person below the post.

“Gone are the days of ‘customer service’!!! There are other supermarkets and we can do business in any of them!” they added.

Another commented: “WOW! That’s something. I bet the companies wouldn’t be happy with the comment they made to you. I certainly wouldn’t go back.”

“So frustrating,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, Kroger customers are outraged over the change to the buy one, get one policy.

And another Kroger customer decided to leave the store after disagreeing with a new checkout policy.
