Kris Robyn said she would no longer visit Walmart due to the new self-checkout limits.

Robyn explained that she was asked to move to a different line after waiting to use the self-service kiosks.

“Walmart is really coming out of pocket, I see why you guys get called names,” she wrote on Facebook publish.

“I’m in the checkout line, this heffa came up to me and said it’s 15 items or less, so I immediately started counting my items in the cart and said I had 3 more items.

“She said you have to go to the cashier.”

Walmart has only introduced this change in some of its branches.

Robyn fumed and said this policy drove her away from the retailer.

“I knew I was being TESTED by the devil,” she added.

“I started to leave everything in the cart, go out and go straight to the target.

“I will not be returning to Walmart NOMORE…FOH.”

Other shoppers also shared their frustrations and agreed with Robyn’s opinion in the post’s comments.

“They make a lot at Walmart,” one person said.

“I can’t stand self check-outs.”

“That part. I was elated. When they told me that,” someone else said.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers also identified their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

VERIFIED

Walmart’s checkout change followed a dramatic change at Target.

The discount department store announced that self-checkouts at most of its stores nationwide would impose a 10-item limit, The US Sun previously reported.

Target added that it would also introduce more checkout aisles for customers to use.

The retailer explained that this change was aimed at making people’s checkout experience faster.

Despite this, some people have complained and said they have recently faced longer wait times in stores.

The US Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.
